About PEX
PEX is an AI-powered spend management platform built for growing organizations. We bring corporate cards, expense management, bill pay, automated workflows and real-time spend controls together in one platform—giving finance teams greater control while eliminating manual work.
As PEX enters its next stage of growth, we are expanding our platform, sharpening our market position and building a more scalable go-to-market engine.
The Role
PEX is looking for a Senior Director of Marketing to lead the marketing function and translate our growth strategy into focused, coordinated execution.
This leader will connect product marketing, demand generation, brand, partner marketing and customer lifecycle programs into one cohesive strategy. Product marketing and brand will be at the center of the role: you will shape our market narrative, lead major product launches and ensure PEX shows up consistently and compellingly across every customer touchpoint.
This is a player-coach role. You will set the strategy, lead and develop the team, and remain close enough to the work to improve a launch plan, sharpen positioning, rewrite a critical message or help get an important campaign across the finish line.
The right person sees where the company and category need to go—and knows how to build the processes, capabilities and operating foundation required to get there.
Key Responsibilities
What You’ll Own
Marketing strategy and leadership
● Translate PEX’s company and revenue objectives into a clear, prioritized marketing strategy.
● Lead the marketing team with clear goals, accountability and a consistent operating cadence.
● Determine where PEX should invest across brand, product marketing, demand generation, partnerships and lifecycle marketing.
● Connect marketing activity to measurable business outcomes, including awareness, pipeline, product adoption, customer expansion and revenue.
● Partner closely with Sales, Product, Partnerships, Customer Success and executive leadership.
Product marketing and launches
● Own PEX’s positioning, messaging, competitive narrative and go-to-market strategy across its platform and products.
● Build a repeatable launch system that connects product readiness, market insight, messaging, enablement, campaigns, partner activation and customer communications.
● Lead high-impact product and platform launches from early strategy through adoption and measurable business impact.
● Bring customer, competitive and market insights into product and company strategy.
● Equip Sales, Partnerships and Customer Success with clear narratives, proof points and tools that help them win.
Brand and category development
● Strengthen how PEX communicates its value as an AI-powered, all-in-one spend management platform.
● Establish a consistent brand narrative across the website, campaigns, content, events, executive communications and sales materials.
● Raise the quality and distinctiveness of PEX’s creative and storytelling.
● Build awareness and credibility with finance leaders, customers, partners and the broader market.
Integrated growth
● Create integrated programs that bring together product marketing, demand generation, partner channels and lifecycle marketing.
● Ensure campaigns carry a consistent audience, message and value proposition from initial awareness through acquisition, adoption and expansion.
● Partner with Revenue Operations to establish clear performance measurement and improve decision-making.
Balance long-term brand development with near-term pipeline and revenue priorities.
AI-enabled marketing operations
● Build an AI-enabled marketing operating system using tools such as Claude.
● Develop reusable context, prompt libraries, project frameworks, workflow templates, agents and quality controls that help the team work faster without lowering the bar.
● Apply AI to customer and competitive research, campaign development, content, sales
enablement, launch coordination and performance analysis.
● Help the team adopt AI responsibly and turn individual experimentation into scalable organizational capability.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
What You Bring
● 10+ years of progressive B2B marketing experience, including at least four years leading teams or major cross-functional programs.
● Deep product marketing experience, including ownership of positioning, messaging and complex product launches at scale.
● Experience connecting product marketing, demand generation, brand, partnerships and lifecycle marketing into an integrated growth strategy.
● A track record of translating company strategy into focused plans, operating rhythms and measurable results.
● Strong understanding of revenue-oriented marketing, including pipeline creation, sales acceleration, customer adoption and expansion.
● Exceptional strategic thinking, storytelling and editorial judgment.
● Strong leadership skills with the willingness and ability to contribute directly to important work.
● A builder’s mindset: comfortable creating structure, processes and capabilities in a growing organization.
● A bias for action and the judgment to move quickly without waiting for perfect information.
● The ability to influence and align Product, Sales, Partnerships, Customer Success and executive stakeholders.
Especially Valuable
● Experience in B2B fintech, payments, expense management, accounts payable or financial software.
● Experience marketing to CFOs, controllers and finance teams in lower mid-market organizations.
● Experience supporting both direct sales and partner-led growth.
● Hands-on experience building AI-enabled marketing workflows, particularly using Claude, agents, reusable project context or similar systems.
● Experience helping a company evolve from a point-solution perception to a broader platform position.
