Job Description
Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Director and a senior cross-functional execution leader for Responsible Business. Help shape priorities, test options and tradeoffs, and translate agreed strategy into clear recommendations, effective governance and accountable delivery of complex enterprise initiatives. The remit extends beyond reporting readiness; overall strategy, executive alignment and material decisions remain with the Executive Director.
Key responsibilities
- Translate Responsible Business strategy into governance processes, operating plans, decision pathways and clear escalation.
- Lead a defined portfolio of complex, cross-functional initiatives that require senior judgment, structured problem-solving and sustained execution. Initial priorities may include the KPI universe, patient-reach methodology and human rights policy.
- Lead Responsible Business strategy activation and cross-functional governance: Align priorities, clarify decisions, mobilize functional owners and resolve barriers. The Director, Responsible Business Reporting & Communications owns the reporting operating model, data and evidence architecture, portal workflows and coordinated control readiness with accountable functional owners.
- Identify and lead separately agreed Responsible Business capability-building initiatives requiring senior-level alignment. Reporting systems modernization and recurring portal operations remain with the Director and accountable system owners.
- Translate stakeholder insights and assessment findings into strategic options and agreed cross-functional action. The Director owns methodology tracking, evidence requirements, reporting and assessment recommendations, and submission coordination; the Executive Director retains material decisions.
- Develop decision-ready materials and recommendations for executive leaders and governance bodies, and support preparation for selected external and investor engagements.
- Coordinate defined governance and strategic initiatives across Stakeholder Intelligence, Sustainability, Strategic Partnerships, reporting and communications, while preserving each capability lead’s accountability.
- Build time-bound cross-functional teams, establish milestones and accountabilities, resolve delivery barriers and transition mature work to the appropriate permanent owner.
- Serve as a trusted adviser to the Executive Director and help strengthen the team’s strategic capability, operating discipline and bench.
Near-term priorities
- Stabilize Responsible Business governance and critical work during the current leadership transition.
- Support reporting delivery when dependencies require broader strategy or senior cross-functional alignment; the Director or named interim reporting driver owns architecture, recurring data and evidence coordination, reviews, approvals and submissions.
- Lead selected priority initiatives that require sustained senior-level coordination and cross-functional execution.
- Clarify ownership, handoffs and controls across Public Affairs, Finance, Controllership, Legal, Sustainability, Human Resources, Investor Relations and other data or policy owners.
- Establish a practical roadmap for the future-state Responsible Business systems, governance and operating capabilities.
- Identify opportunities to simplify or discontinue duplicative processes and transition work to the appropriate permanent owners.
Experience and capabilities
- Significant senior-level experience across Responsible Business, corporate affairs, public affairs, sustainability, governance, strategy or a related discipline in a complex organization.
- Demonstrated success leading complex, high-stakes initiatives across functions and influencing senior executives without relying on direct authority.
- Strong understanding of governance, data and reporting architecture, controls, evidence, disclosure readiness, external assessments or related enterprise systems.
- Exceptional strategic synthesis, executive writing, facilitation and judgment, with the ability to convert technical material into clear choices and recommendations.
- Experience designing technology-enabled workflows and using data and analytics to improve governance, decision-making and operational visibility.
- Ability to establish structure quickly, distinguish material issues from process noise and move work from ambiguity to decision and execution.
- Strong cross-functional leadership, stakeholder management and disciplined follow-through.
- Experience in biopharma, healthcare or another highly regulated global organization preferred.
- Experience coaching colleagues and building strategic and operating capability across a team preferred.
Measures of success
- Leaders receive timely, evidence-based recommendations with clear choices, implications and decision paths.
- Governance forums operate with clear ownership, appropriate escalation and consistent follow-through.
- Agreed cross-functional outcomes and governance milestones are delivered; reporting dependencies requiring senior alignment are resolved without duplicating the Director's ownership.
- Complex initiatives move from ambiguity to accountable execution and transition successfully to durable owners.
- Complex work progresses with less recurring executive intervention.
- Team roles and cross-functional interfaces are clearer, with fewer duplicated products, unresolved handoffs and ownership gaps.
- Agreed Responsible Business capability-building initiatives strengthen enterprise decision-making and transition to durable owners.
