Senior Director, Asia Real-World Data Strategy & External Partnerships Lead

Department

Asia Development Sciences, Development Sciences

Job Purpose

Asia Development Sciences plays a critical role in generating high-quality evidence to support GSK’s R&D decision making and regulatory submissions across therapeutic areas. In Asia—particularly China and Japan—the real-world data (RWD) landscape is complex, fragmented and rapidly evolving, requiring dedicated regional strategies and strong external partnerships to unlock robust real-world evidence (RWE).

The Senior Director, Asia Real-World Data Strategy & External Partnerships is accountable for defining and leading the RWD strategy for Asia within Development Sciences, with a primary focus on China and Japan. The role will build and manage strategic collaborations with governmental bodies, academic institutions, hospital networks, CROs and data providers, ensuring compliant, sustainable access to high-quality data. The Senior Director provides strategic leadership, cross-functional partnership and hands-on delivery support to ensure Asia data ecosystems are effectively leveraged to address key regulatory and clinical questions throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. Asia RWD Strategy for Development Sciences

  • Define, lead and continuously refine the Asia RWD strategy for Development Sciences, aligned to global RWE, Epidemiology, Clinical and Regulatory priorities.
  • Map and monitor the Asia RWD landscape (e.g. EHRs, EMRs, registries, claims, surveillance data) and translate insights into clear strategic priorities, roadmaps and use cases for key therapy areas.
  • Provide Asia-focused thought leadership on RWD/RWE within Development Sciences, including developing and delivering training and communication to build internal capabilities.

2. External Partnerships and Ecosystem Building

  • Identify, secure and manage strategic partnerships with academic centres, hospital networks, CROs, data providers and relevant consortia in China, Japan and broader Asia to ensure sustainable, high-quality RWD access.
  • Design and implement collaboration frameworks, governance models and joint workplans that deliver mutual value and support critical evidence needs.
  • Establish long-term strategic relationships that enhance GSK's access to emerging data ecosystems and evidence-generation opportunities.
  • Represent Asia Development Sciences in external RWD/RWE forums, industry collaborations, policy discussions, and scientific initiatives, strengthening GSK's influence and visibility within the regional evidence-generation ecosystem.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging partnership, data, and evidence-generation opportunities that can support future portfolio needs and strengthen GSK's long-term RWD capabilities.
  • Monitor external trends in healthcare data, evidence generation, and regulatory policy to proactively inform Asia and Global Development Sciences strategies

3. Cross-Functional Strategic Input and Portfolio Support

  • Serve as the primary Asia interface to Global RWD Strategy, Epidemiology, and Evidence Generation organizations, ensuring regional scientific and data strategies and partnerships support global development priorities.
  • Act as the regional enablement lead for Asia RWD access and partnership opportunities, supporting global and Asian development teams in identifying, evaluating, and leveraging fit-for-purpose data sources.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between Asia and global teams, ensuring regional insights, opportunities, and challenges are incorporated into enterprise RWD strategies.
  • Champion the visibility and strategic value of Asia data ecosystems within global portfolio discussions and planning activities

4. Data Access, Governance and Compliance

  • Work with Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Procurement and Tech/Data teams to define and maintain compliant data-access, data-sharing and governance frameworks for Asia RWD partnerships, including third-party risk assessment, contract structures, data protection and ethical research requirements.
  • Ensure all Asia RWD partnership activities comply with local laws and regulations (e.g. data privacy, security, cross-border transfer) and GSK policies, providing oversight and escalation where required.
  • Anticipate and respond to regulatory and policy changes impacting RWD/RWE in Asia, proactively adjusting strategies, contracts and governance models.

5. Partner Evaluation and Portfolio Management

  • Lead structured evaluations of potential and existing Asia RWD partners, assessing capabilities, data availability, contents, population coverage, data quality, access routes, governance, stability of access and strategic fit.
  • Maintain and communicate a consolidated view of the Asia RWD partner portfolio (e.g. partnership tracker, milestones, risks, dependencies and investment needs) for Asia Development Sciences leadership.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to governance bodies and senior leaders on portfolio performance and future opportunities.

6. Oversight of RWE Studies in Asia LOCs

  • Provide strategic and operational support for oversight of RWE studies in key Asia LOCs, ensuring delivery is compliant, high-quality and aligned with GSK standards and local regulatory expectations.
  • Support LOC teams in resolving complex RWD/RWE issues (e.g. data access, governance, regulatory queries), and facilitate sharing of best practices across Asia markets.

Education Requirements (minimum expected)

  • PhD in Clinical Epidemiology, Pharmacoepidemiology, Public Health, or related discipline; or MD with significant experience in RWD/RWE strategy and evidence generation.

Job-Related Experience (minimum requirements)

  • Demonstrated experience defining and/or executing RWD/RWE strategies and/or external data partnership strategies, with substantial experience in Asia markets (China and/or Japan strongly preferred).
  • Proven track record of building, leading and sustaining complex external collaborations involving health data, including contract negotiations and governance discussions.
  • Experience working with diverse healthcare RWD sources (EMRs, registries, claims, surveillance data), with strong understanding of data access routes, governance, data quality, limitations and operational constraints.
  • Strong understanding of international and local RWD regulations, guidelines and policy frameworks (e.g. ICH, China’s CDE, Japan’s PMDA), and ability to apply these requirements to RWD/RWE study design and implementation.

Other Job-Related Skills & Competencies
