Designed for an ambitious leader who pairs journalistic maturity with an appetite for innovation, this role drives organic fan acquisition, search/AI discovery (SEO & GEO), and long-term audience retention across web, app, and audio ecosystems.
About Formula E:
Formula E, the world's fastest-growing sport, is redefining motorsport with a bold focus on innovation and sustainability.
Hosting over 150 races in iconic cities globally and backed by top manufacturers like Porsche, Nissan and Jaguar, we feature elite drivers and cutting-edge EV technology.
As the world's first certified B Corp sport and the first sport certified to the British Standards Institution (BSI) Net Zero Pathway. Formula E combines thrilling entertainment with a mission to advance sustainable progress, inspiring a global fanbase with our high-performance brand new GEN4 car capable of hitting speeds of 335kph and reaching 200kph in just 4.4 seconds. Currently achieving 0-100 kmh in 1.8 seconds.
Using the spectacle of sport, we are sending a powerful and meaningful message to help alter perceptions and speed-up the switch to electric mobility.
The Role:
Strategic & Creative Editorial Direction: Define the tone of voice and journalistic standards across web and app platforms, translating complex technical topics, search intelligence, and analytics into compelling stories for racing fans and digital-first newcomers.
Next-Generation Search & Discovery (SEO & GEO): Architect Formula E's organic discovery strategy, leading traditional technical SEO alongside Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) across emerging AI search platforms and LLM answer engines.
Editorial Data & Funnel Performance: Take full accountability for editorial analytics, tracking engagement time, scroll depth, organic click-throughs, and LLM citation frequency (AI share of voice) to drive ticket conversion, app downloads, and CRM capture.
Cross-Functional Search & AI Advisory: Serve as the internal centre of excellence for search, audience intent, and LLM behaviour, supplying real-time search intelligence to PR, Brand, Social, and Marketing teams.
Audio IP, Syndication & Deep Reads: Oversee Formula E's podcast network, develop high-value deep-read features, and package editorial assets for third-party media partnerships, guest columns, and external syndication.
Editorial Operations & Standards: Implement disciplined publishing processes, style guides, and fast-turnaround workflows to ensure digital platforms remain the definitive, fastest-moving source for Formula E news.
People Leadership & Mentorship: Line-manage, mentor, and elevate the Editorial Executive, establishing clear development roadmaps and fostering a high-performance culture anchored in accountability and creative pride.
What we're looking for in you:
Senior Editorial Leadership: Significant progressive experience heading digital editorial desks, publishing platforms, or digital content strategies within sports, live entertainment, major media publishers, or global culture brands.
Advanced SEO & GEO Mastery: Proven expertise in cutting-edge search strategies, going beyond standard keywords to include semantic search, LLM answer-engine optimisation (GEO), site taxonomy architecture, and technical audits.
Data-Led Rigour & Commercial Acumen: High analytical comfort with a track record of translating data into actionable editorial strategies that increase dwell time, organic traffic, and ticket discovery.
Discipline, Speed & Standards: A structured operator who thrives on clear workflows and fast turnarounds without compromising tone, accuracy, or journalistic standards.
Holistic & Cross-Functional Thinking: Ability to view editorial as an engine powering the wider commercial ecosystem—driving PR pitches, social deep-links, app traffic, and commercial campaigns.
Mentorship & Leadership: A mature people manager with a proven track record of coaching junior talent, driving team morale, and fostering a growth mindset.
