We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Test Automation Engineer to join a team developing and validating mission-critical systems in a highly regulated environment.
In this role, you will design, develop and execute automated testing solutions for complex distributed systems, working closely with client engineers and development teams to ensure the highest levels of quality, reliability and compliance.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technically challenging problems, building test frameworks from scratch, and working with real-time communication protocols beyond traditional web applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python.
- Create and extend test harnesses, simulators, stubs and drivers to support system validation activities.
- Develop and maintain message encoders/decoders and test utilities in C/C++ when required.
- Validate complex integrations involving TCP/UDP communications, binary protocols, message brokers, gRPC and file-based interfaces.
- Design effective test strategies using boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning, robustness testing and risk-based approaches.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
- Produce and maintain high-quality test documentation, including specifications, traceability matrices, execution reports and coverage metrics.
- Collaborate directly with customer engineering teams to investigate issues, define validation strategies and ensure successful project delivery.
- Support verification and validation activities within safety-critical and regulated environments.
- 5+ years of experience in Test Automation, Software Testing or Software Engineering.
- Strong Python programming skills with hands-on experience developing automated test solutions.
- Working knowledge of C/C++, including the ability to read production code and write or adapt stubs, drivers and message processing components.
- Experience testing non-HTTP interfaces such as:
- TCP/UDP sockets
- Binary communication protocols
- JMS, TIBCO EMS or similar messaging systems
- gRPC services
- File-based integrations
- Proven experience building custom testing frameworks, simulators or test harnesses.
- Strong understanding of test design techniques and quality engineering principles.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD environments.
- Good Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working in safety-critical or highly regulated industries such as aviation, air traffic management (ATM), rail, automotive, defence, medical devices or energy.
- Strong documentation and traceability practices.
- Fluent English with excellent communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with concepts and standards such as:
- ASTERIX
- AFTN / AMHS
- OLDI
- Flight planning and surveillance systems
- Knowledge of safety standards including DO-178C, DO-278A, ED-109A or ED-153.
- Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Performance and load testing of real-time, distributed or message-based systems.
- Experience using network analysis tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump.
- HMI test automation experience for desktop or operational display systems.
- French language skills.
- Previous experience defining test automation architecture or leading testing teams.
