Job Overview
We’re looking for an Encounter Designer to help shape the next generation of event modes for World of Tanks at Wargaming. As a senior member of the event team, you will define and champion the combat experience and encounter philosophy behind our seasonal and limited-time modes.
What will you do?
- Act as the bridge that connects player combat, enemy combat, and level design teams.
- Own and advocate for the full combat experience, making sure player abilities, enemy behaviour, and encounter design fit together into engaging gameplay.
- Design, prototype, and refine player combat systems, enemy mechanics, encounters, and moment-to-moment gameplay.
- Set up combat and encounter design frameworks, standards, and best practices so that several feature teams can build at scale.
- Build combat encounters that challenge players, reward mastery, allow for different playstyles, and support progression goals.
- Analyse player feedback, telemetry, and playtest results to find ways to improve combat feel, pacing, difficulty, and engagement.
- Work with leadership to spot risks, agree on priorities, and keep combat work aligned with the wider goals of the game.
- Hold a high bar for quality, accessibility, usability, and player experience throughout development.
What are we looking for?
- Deep knowledge of combat design fundamentals, including pacing, responsiveness, game feel, encounter design, progression, and player mastery.
- Substantial hands-on experience building and balancing combat systems for action games.
- Strong skills in gameplay prototyping, iterative development, tuning, and using playtests to guide design decisions.
- Experience working closely with engineering teams to turn design goals into solid, reliable gameplay features
- Excellent written and spoken communication, with the ability to explain design intent clearly and give feedback people can act on.
- Hands-on experience with current game development tools and engines
- Solid grasp of what motivates and engages players, how progression systems work, and how great gameplay keeps players coming back.
- Thorough knowledge of game development pipelines and of how disciplines work together in production.
Work mode
- Remote (from anywhere within Ukraine).
- This role isn't eligible for relocation & immigration support.
