Senior Engineer | Electrical (New Zealand)
Inspire a better world through influence and design.

Want to work on a varied project base across multiple sectors, and help build ADP's presence in New Zealand from the ground up?
We are looking for a Senior Engineer | Electrical to join the ADP Consulting team in Auckland or Hamilton. This is a building services consulting role with a broad project base spanning many sectors, where you will have genuine technical ownership of your projects from concept through to construction.
The role will start remotely. As our New Zealand team grows, we plan to move into a shared or standalone office in around 12 months, with the location still to be confirmed. From then, we'll expect you to work from the office for some or most of the week.

Please note: Applicants must reside in New Zealand and hold full New Zealand working rights, as this role does not offer visa sponsorship.

Who We Are

Founded in 2011 in Australia, ADP Consulting is a trusted, sustainability-led engineering consultancy with an international footprint that is renowned for finding the best technical and sustainable solutions to the most complex projects, wherever these may be.

ADP Consulting is committed to inspiring a better world through influence and design, collaborating with industry leaders who are equally as passionate about innovation, design excellence and, importantly, our impact on the planet.

ADP Consulting has now joined forces with Ayesa, one of the world's largest technology and engineering companies, in a move that facilitates new pathways and accelerates our growth.

What is your role?

You will take technical responsibility for electrical building services design across a varied mix of project types and sectors. Working as part of a broader ADP team across New Zealand and Australia, you will carry projects from early concept through to construction documentation, producing and reviewing electrical designs covering power distribution within buildings, lighting and controls, emergency systems, communication and data infrastructure, and security. You will coordinate closely with ADP's wider multidisciplinary team, spanning mechanical, hydraulic, fire, vertical transport, acoustics, ICT and sustainability, so clients get a fully integrated building services solution from one consultancy. You will also be a direct point of contact for clients and other project stakeholders on the projects you lead.

The project base is intentionally broad. You will work across data centre and mission critical facilities, alongside commercial, education, health, civic and mixed-use projects, with the variety that comes from a consultancy that does not restrict itself to one or two sectors. You will also contribute to the mentoring and technical development of more junior engineers in the team, and you will play an active role in design reviews and quality checking across your projects. There is also the opportunity to work on Australian projects with our teams across the country, and to be part of growing ADP's presence in New Zealand, so business development experience is a real advantage.

Why Electrical Engineers Are Choosing ADP Right Now

  • Be part of building something. You'll start working remotely and help shape our New Zealand presence as it grows, including our move into a local office in around 12 months. Broad sector exposure that stays that way. The project mix covers data centre and mission critical, commercial, education, health, civic and more, across both New Zealand and Australia. You are not being hired to sit in one vertical indefinitely.
  • Technical ownership from day one. You will lead your own projects and manage your own client relationships rather than feeding work upward to someone else who presents it.
  • The scale and backing of Ayesa's global engineering and technology network, with the culture and pace of a focused Australian and New Zealand consultancy.

About You

  • You are a senior electrical engineer with a background in building services consulting, comfortable taking full ownership of electrical design from concept through to construction across a range of project types.
  • You are a Chartered Professional Engineer registered with Engineering New Zealand (CPEng), or you hold an equivalent registration that demonstrates the same level of professional standing.
  • You have strong experience across the core scope of electrical building services: power distribution within buildings, lighting and controls, emergency power and exit lighting, communications and data infrastructure, and security and access systems.
  • You produce and review design documentation to a standard that contractors and certifiers can work from without repeated clarification, and you take quality seriously at every stage of a project.
  • You have experience delivering electrical design on data centre or mission critical projects, including resilient power, UPS and standby generation.
  • Business development experience is advantageous. You enjoy building client relationships and want to help grow ADP's presence in New Zealand.
  • You communicate clearly, can manage a project programme, and are comfortable working as part of a distributed multidisciplinary team, now remotely and later in a hybrid office arrangement. You are based in the Auckland or Hamilton region and are entitled to work in New Zealand without visa sponsorship.
