The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction estimating efforts for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across the United States. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in developing competitive project solutions that help accelerate the clean energy transition.

The ideal candidate brings strong utility-scale renewable energy experience, advanced cost estimating expertise, and the ability to lead estimating teams in a fast-paced EPC environment. You will collaborate with business development, procurement, preconstruction, and operations teams to develop winning project strategies from initial pursuit through project execution.

This position is remote and will involve occasional travel for pre-bid site visits & client page turns. Utility-scale Solar or BESS estimating experience is required.

Responsibilities

Preconstruction & Bid Development

  • Lead estimating efforts for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Develop accurate and competitive project estimates utilizing self-perform and subcontractor pricing.
  • Review RFPs, drawings, specifications, schedules, and design criteria to determine project scope and estimate requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and validate estimate assumptions.
  • Develop and distribute subcontractor bid packages while driving competitive pricing strategies.
  • Analyze historical project data and market trends to strengthen estimate accuracy.
  • Manage and mentor supporting estimators throughout the pursuit process.
  • Review, normalize, and evaluate subcontractor proposals and provide recommendation analyses.
  • Prepare pricing proposals and supporting documentation for client submissions.

Contract Award & Project Transition

  • Support contract negotiations and pricing updates throughout the award process.
  • Partner with Procurement to finalize subcontractor scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Develop project phase codes and reporting structures for project controls.
  • Conduct budget tracking and estimate-to-actual variance analysis to improve future estimating accuracy.
  • Lead estimate review meetings and facilitate a seamless turnover to Operations and Project Management teams.

Construction Support

  • Partner with project teams to evaluate change orders and cost impacts.
  • Provide estimating expertise and historical project knowledge during project execution.
  • Support resolution of design, procurement, and subcontractor-related issues throughout construction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Energy Systems, Energy Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of estimating experience supporting utility-scale energy, power, electrical, renewable energy, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience estimating utility-scale solar and/or battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
  • Experience developing detailed cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid proposals.
  • Strong understanding of EPC project delivery and preconstruction processes.
  • Electrical takeoff experience and knowledge of major electrical systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience supporting utility-scale energy, power, electrical, renewable energy, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Experience with projects ranging from 100 MWdc to 1,000 MWdc
  • Estimating experience in a self-perform construction environment
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior estimators
  • Experience soliciting, evaluating, and negotiating subcontractor proposals
  • Familiarity with B2W, Procore, SharePoint, and Microsoft Project
  • Understanding of renewable energy design, electrical engineering, or utility-scale construction methodologies.

Key Partnerships: Estimators, Pursuit Managers, Business Development, Preconstruction Project Engineers, Preconstruction Project Managers, Procurement, Operations, Customers, Consulting Engineers, Vendors, and Subcontractors.
