Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies . I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Director, Ethics and Professional Review (Director), the Senior Ethics and Professional Review Associate (Senior EPR Associate) will provide professional expertise in the area of ethics and professional review to guide NASW members in ethical social work practice and support the administration of the NASW professional review process. This individual will perform consultation, technical, education, and administrative duties to facilitate the ethics and professional review programs. The Senior EPR Associate provides staff support to the Director, the National Ethics Committee (NEC), Chapters, members and consumers relating to social work ethics. In addition, they will work closely with the Director to identify, develop, and implement education programs for the profession using various modalities, e.g., media, virtual, live webinar, and online presentation formats. The Senior EPR Associate will assist with the maintenance of the Office of Ethics and Professional Review presence on social media. The Senior EPR Associate will conceptualize and produce ethics web content and lead social media projects. II. BASIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership and guidance in collaboration with other OEPR staff for the National Ethics Committee’s (NEC) by: Interpreting standards in the NASW Code of Ethics Clarifying the goals and purpose of the professional review process Ensuring proper protocol during case reviews Anticipating needs of NEC members and addressing those needs in a timely and effective manner Staying abreast of and keeping the committee informed of current trends or common themes in professional social work ethics Addressing technical and procedural issues in the professional review process Screening information and material submitted for case reviews Analyzing complicated complaints to determine appropriate actions Collaborating with internal stakeholders e.g., Office of General Counsel and NASW Leadership, to address policy or case concerns Collaborates with other OEPR department staff to support the NEC with the development and revision of policies governing the professional review process. Develops literature, brochures, informational resources, marketing material, correspondence, and web content as necessary. Collaborates with internal and external subject matter experts, academia, and technology experts. Provides consultation and technical support to professional review volunteers as necessary. Responds to concerns regarding complex issues via written correspondence and telephone contacts with interested parties. Staffs all ethics and professional review task forces and other appointed sub-committees. Drafts task force reports, policy changes and other reports as needed. Provides the social work lens in delivering services to assist with the facilitation of the professional review process including intake, mediation and adjudication proceedings, and preparation of NEC and chapter meetings and trainings. Ethics Provides ethics consultations for members; to include the interpretation of ethical standards and relevant aspects of the Code, and referral to other relevant resources. Collaborates with the Director to develop and deliver ethics programs, including training, presentations, and online resources that meet the current needs of the profession based on current data and trends. Assists with the development and provision of quality course content in collaboration with internal and external subject matter experts, academics and technology experts as assigned. Leads the development and execution of live, recorded and written ethics programs. Responds, in a timely manner to inquiries regarding the NASW Code of Ethics and alleged violations of the Code. Serves as initial point of contact for chapters, members, and stakeholders interested in ethics education, programming and/or technical assistance. Conducts research in the area of social work ethics to include collection and analysis of OEPR data. Summarizes findings and provides quarterly and annual reports. Updates the OEPR webpage with current statistics and information. Assists with other Ethics and Professional Review duties as assigned. III. MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS Skills : Requires excellent record-keeping skills including a strong requirement to ensure confidentiality of ethics consults and OEPR files. Requires demonstrated program administration, project management, and strong customer service and organizational skills. Requires a strong understanding of the NASW Code of Ethics and social work ethical practice. Requires demonstrated analytical and research skills. Requires excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Requires strong attention to detail. Requires strong training development and presentation experience, skill and interest. Strong skills in Microsoft Office, Web content development and PowerPoint. Knowledge : Master’s degree in social work required. Requires expertise in ethics and considerable experience with the NASW Code of Ethics and professional social work issues. Requires knowledge and experience with online resource development. Some knowledge of legal, mediation or adjudication processes is preferable. Experience : Requires a minimum of 5 years post-MSW social work experience, two of which include clinical practice and programming. Minimum of two years' experience preparing and presenting live, or web-based professional development training resources. Social work ethics knowledge and experience is preferred. IV. This union position is hybrid. For the summer, you'll be expected to be in the DC office (one day a week) and the rest of the days remote.
