The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join a well-established importer, wholesaler and distribution business on a 13-month fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance professional who enjoys working in a dynamic operational environment and can confidently manage month-end reporting, inventory accounting and business-critical financial processes.
Reporting to the CFO, you will play a key role in maintaining the finance function, partnering closely with operational teams and ensuring accurate financial reporting across the business. This is a broad and varied financial accounting position that combines traditional financial accounting responsibilities with a strong focus on inventory, stock control and cost accounting.
The business operates in an inventory-intensive environment, making stock accounting accuracy critical to financial performance, reporting integrity and commercial decision-making. As such, candidates with strong inventory accounting experience will be highly regarded. Key Responsibilities
Prepare month-end journals and reconciliations
Complete balance sheet, bank and general ledger reconciliations
Prepare monthly management reports, including P&L and balance sheet reporting
Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
Assist with statutory reporting and compliance obligations
Perform monthly inventory reconciliations between operational and financial systems
Review stock movements, inventory adjustments and valuation accuracy
Analyse inventory-related variances and cost movements
Support margin analysis and gross profit reporting
Investigate discrepancies and provide recommendations to improve inventory controls
Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure inventory integrity
Maintain cash flow forecasts and reporting
Support accounts payable and finance operations
Provide financial insights to support business decision-making
Assist with ERP system processes and reporting
Prepare BAS and GST reconciliations
Support year-end reporting and audit requirements
Assist with statutory and regulatory reporting obligations
About You To be successful, you will bring:
CA, CPA or equivalent qualification
Significant experience in financial accounting roles
Strong month-end accounting and reconciliation skills
Demonstrated experience with inventory, stock and cost accounting
Experience working in wholesale, importing, manufacturing, distribution or inventory-driven environments
Strong ERP system experience
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
The ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines
Highly Regarded
Infor M3 or ERP experience within manufacturing or wholesale businesses
Experience working with inventory-intensive businesses
Knowledge of average costing, stock valuation and inventory variance analysis
Experience with purchasing, supply chain or distribution environments
