Role Purpose

The Senior Financial Analyst supports financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for Canadian operations, with a focus on consolidated management reporting, capital expenditures, and Shared Services. This hands-on role analyzes complex financial data, performs consolidations and reconciliations, and delivers accurate, decision-ready reporting. The role also supports Finance modernization through expanded Power BI reporting and the implementation of a new budgeting and forecasting platform.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting, Consolidation & Ad Hoc Analysis

  • Prepare and present monthly consolidated financial and operational reporting, including business performance, KPIs, budget-to-actual results, forecasts, and variance analysis for executive and regional leadership.
  • Consolidate, reconcile, and validate financial and operational data from multiple sources, delivering accurate reporting and insights to support business decisions.
  • Maintain budget and forecast models, support month-end reviews, and investigate financial variances, discrepancies, and reclassification requirements.

Capital Expenditure Reporting

  • Manage capital reporting and project data, including budget, forecast, spend, and variance analysis, while maintaining data integrity through consolidation, reconciliation, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

Shared Services Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Partner with Shared Services leaders to manage budgets and forecasts, analyze financial performance, investigate variances, and provide insights, recommendations, and risk/opportunity analysis to support decision-making.

Reporting Automation & Planning Systems

  • Support reporting and planning system enhancements, including Power BI reporting, budgeting and forecasting tools, data validation, process design, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA, CFA and/or MBA qualification an asset.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of post-designation experience in financial reporting and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting and variance reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency is essential, including complex formulas, lookups, PivotTables, large dataset manipulation, manual consolidation, reconciliations and robust ad hoc analysis.
  • Strong data management skills: able to extract, clean, organize, validate and interpret high volumes of information, resolve inconsistencies and turn complex data into accurate, accessible reporting.
  • Solid financial and business acumen, including financial statements, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and variance analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI required, including report/dashboard development, data transformation and validation. Knowledge of Power Query and DAX is an asset.
  • Experience improving or automating financial reporting and planning processes; exposure to budgeting system implementation, Oracle EPBCS or comparable planning platforms is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results to non-finance stakeholders and build effective relationships with business leaders.
  • Detail-oriented and resourceful; comfortable working independently in a high-volume, partly manual reporting environment while developing better long-term processes.
  • Familiarity with port and terminal operations is valuable but not required.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
