What You'll Do
Our BCG X teams own the full analytics value chain end-to-end: framing business challenges, designing innovative algorithms, implementing scalable solutions, and enabling clients to fully embrace AI and advanced analytics. Our product offerings span from fully customized solutions to industry-specific AI software products.
Our Senior Forward Deployed AI Scientists are part of our rapidly growing team applying data science and AI to some of the most complex real-world business challenges. In this role, you will help build a next-generation, AI-powered suite designed to transform how large, complex capital projects are understood and managed, combining advanced analytics, machine learning and AI to anticipate outcomes, uncover hidden risks and performance drivers, and turn complex project data into actionable insights.
As a Senior Forward Deployed AI Scientist – Operations & Large Capex, you will apply advanced analytics, machine learning, optimization, and simulation techniques to solve complex operational challenges in large capital projects. Working as part of diverse, multidisciplinary teams, including BCG consultants, Operations experts, AI engineers, and client teams, you will design, build, and deploy AI-driven solutions that deliver measurable business impact.
You will work at the intersection of data science, AI and real-world decision making, leveraging your knowledge of large capital projects to develop solutions for better, faster and leaner project delivery.
Additional responsibilities will include contributing to thought leadership through scientific publications and conferences on behalf of BCG X. Successful candidates are intellectually curious builders who are biased toward action, creative, and communicative.
What You'll Bring
We are looking for dedicated individuals with a passion for data science, operations research, optimization, and transforming organizations into AI-enabled, data-driven enterprises.
Successful candidates possess the following:
- Master's degree or PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related field.
- 4–7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience applying data science, machine learning, optimization, or simulation techniques to solve complex business problems, with the ability to translate insights into business impact.
- Experience or strong knowledge of large capital projects, including planning, scheduling and optimization, with expertise in areas such as predictive analytics and risk or agentic AI / multi-agent solutions.
- Knowledge of Operations & Optimization methodologies and experience solving operational challenges in areas such as supply chain, engineering, procurement, and cost optimization.
- Strong programming skills in Python; experience with optimization tools (e.g., Gurobi, OR-Tools, Pyomo) is a plus.
- Knowledge of major project management software suites, such as Primavera or similar solutions; familiarity with integrated project management solutions and BIM platforms is considered a plus.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable in client-facing environments, working collaboratively in diverse teams, and managing multiple stakeholders, with the ambition to lead teams.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Italian.

Compensation Information
Total compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, and a benefits package described below. Our Reward Philosophy is to take a holistic approach to offer a comprehensive package which includes market-competitive base salary, discretionary performance bonus and benefits that can support both physical and mental health. Our philosophy drives our actions and aims at being competitive, fair and easy for employees to understand. We are committed to ensuring that BCG is the best place for you to thrive and grow.
The base salary for this role is at least EUR 87.000,00. Employees may also be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
