About the Position
Forward Deployed Engineers at Extreme are software engineers who work directly with strategic customers to jointly design, build, validate, and deploy solutions to complex business and technical problems using Extreme's products and platforms.
FDEs operate in real customer environments and own technical outcomes from discovery and solution design through implementation, deployment, and production readiness. The solutions they build must meet demanding requirements for scalability, security, reliability, observability, and operational safety.
This is a deeply technical and hands-on engineering organization. FDEs work directly with customers to understand complex problems and design, build, deploy, and stabilize production solutions using Extreme's products and platforms. They write production software, solve complex systems and integration problems, and own technical outcomes from solution design through production readiness. FDEs also identify platform gaps and define new feature requirements, working with Product teams to incorporate recurring customer needs into Extreme's products and platforms.
About the Role
As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with customer technical teams to design, build, deploy, and stabilize production solutions using Extreme's products and platforms.
You will take ownership of significant engineering workstreams and, depending on the engagement, complete customer solutions. You will work across application development, agentic AI, integrations, data, APIs, automation, networking, and cloud infrastructure to solve problems in real customer environments.
You will write production software, troubleshoot complex systems, and work through ambiguity without requiring a fully defined technical specification. You will also help identify reusable engineering patterns and platform gaps based on what you learn while delivering customer solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work directly with customer technical teams to understand their workflows, systems, data, technical constraints, and desired outcomes.
- Collaborate with customers and other FDEs to design and deliver production solutions using Extreme's products and platforms.
- Own significant technical components or workstreams from design and implementation through deployment and production readiness.
- Write production-quality software, including applications, agents, APIs, integrations, data connectors, tools, skills, workflows, and automation as required by the solution.
- Integrate Extreme's products and platforms with customer systems, data sources, APIs, identity systems, infrastructure, and operational workflows.
- Build and maintain automated tests, AI evaluations where appropriate, deployment automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Implement logging, monitoring, tracing, and other observability required to operate solutions reliably in production.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across software, data, integrations, networking, infrastructure, and AI components.
- Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews and contribute to sound technical decisions across the engagement.
- Support production deployment and stabilization and ensure delivered components meet agreed production-readiness requirements.
- Create clear technical documentation, deployment guidance, and operational runbooks.
- Identify reusable components, integrations, tools, skills, automation, and engineering patterns that can accelerate future customer deployments.
- Identify platform gaps and define new feature requirements, working with Product teams to incorporate recurring customer needs into Extreme's products and platforms.
- Contribute to engineering standards, technical practices, and knowledge sharing across the FDE organization.
