The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Fraud Prevention Specialist to lead fraud-risk prevention, detection, monitoring, investigation support, control enhancement, fraud analytics, and continuous improvement across customer, payment, account, and operational activities.
The ideal candidate will combine strong fraud-risk expertise with analytical and investigative capabilities to identify fraud patterns, develop preventive controls, assess emerging threats, reduce financial losses, and improve fraud-detection effectiveness across the customer and transaction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain fraud-prevention strategies, policies, procedures, standards, and control frameworks.
- Conduct fraud-risk assessments across customers, products, services, payment channels, processes, and operational activities.
- Identify fraud vulnerabilities across onboarding, authentication, account management, payments, refunds, withdrawals, lending, claims, and other business processes.
- Analyze historical fraud incidents, losses, chargebacks, disputes, customer complaints, and operational events to identify recurring patterns.
- Monitor customer and transaction activity for indicators of fraudulent behavior.
- Develop and maintain fraud detection rules, scenarios, risk indicators, thresholds, and preventive controls.
- Review fraud alerts and assess potentially fraudulent transactions, accounts, customers, devices, merchants, or counterparties.
- Conduct investigations into suspected fraud and determine appropriate escalation or control actions.
- Analyze relationships between customers, accounts, devices, payment instruments, IP addresses, locations, merchants, beneficiaries, and transactions.
- Identify account takeover, identity theft, payment fraud, card fraud, application fraud, synthetic identity, refund abuse, first-party fraud, merchant fraud, and other relevant typologies.
- Investigate suspicious customer behavior, unusual transaction patterns, rapid movement of funds, abnormal account activity, and other fraud indicators.
- Support fraud investigations involving complex, high-value, repeat, organized, or cross-border activity.
- Escalate material fraud cases to Financial Crime, Compliance, Risk, Legal, Cybersecurity, or senior management as appropriate.
- Coordinate with AML and transaction-monitoring teams when fraud activity may indicate broader financial-crime concerns.
- Develop customer, transaction, device, behavioral, and channel risk indicators to support fraud detection.
- Analyze fraud trends by product, customer segment, geography, channel, payment method, merchant, device, and transaction type.
- Identify emerging fraud typologies and assess their potential impact on the organization.
- Monitor external fraud trends, industry intelligence, regulatory developments, and emerging attack methods.
- Develop preventive controls to reduce fraud exposure before transactions or customer activities are completed.
- Recommend authentication, verification, transaction limits, step-up controls, account restrictions, or other risk-based interventions.
- Evaluate fraud controls for effectiveness and identify opportunities to strengthen prevention without unnecessarily affecting legitimate customers.
- Monitor fraud-rule performance and recommend changes to thresholds, logic, segmentation, and detection strategies.
- Support fraud-model development, validation, tuning, and performance monitoring where applicable.
- Analyze fraud scores, behavioral analytics, device intelligence, network relationships, and other risk signals.
- Work with Data, Technology, Product, and Engineering teams to improve fraud-detection capabilities.
- Support implementation and enhancement of fraud-management, transaction-monitoring, case-management, and analytics platforms.
- Participate in user acceptance testing, system configuration, data migration, and fraud-rule implementation.
- Validate fraud-system data, alert generation, decisioning logic, and control effectiveness.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of fraud alerts, investigations, dispositions, and preventive actions.
- Identify false-positive trends and recommend improvements to reduce unnecessary customer friction.
- Maintain accurate fraud investigation records, evidence, case decisions, escalation documentation, and loss information.
- Track fraud cases through investigation, resolution, recovery, and closure.
- Support fraud-loss recovery activities and coordinate with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze chargebacks, payment disputes, refunds, reversals, and other financial-loss events for fraud indicators.
- Coordinate with banks, payment processors, card networks, merchants, platforms, and other external partners on fraud-related matters.
- Support information sharing and fraud-risk coordination with appropriate industry or external partners where permitted.
- Develop fraud dashboards and management reports covering fraud volumes, losses, detection rates, prevention rates, recovery, and emerging trends.
- Monitor key fraud metrics and provide management with actionable recommendations.
- Establish fraud-risk thresholds, escalation criteria, and response standards.
- Support fraud incident-response processes and coordinate rapid action on significant fraud events.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and root-cause analysis to identify control weaknesses and prevention opportunities.
- Develop corrective and preventive actions and track remediation through completion.
- Support internal audits, external audits, regulatory examinations, and fraud-control assessments.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality when handling customer, transaction, investigation, and fraud-related information.
- Develop fraud-awareness and prevention guidance for employees and operational teams.
- Provide subject-matter expertise to Customer Service, Payments, Operations, Product, Technology, and Risk teams.
- Mentor junior fraud analysts and review complex investigations for quality and consistency.
- Identify opportunities to automate fraud detection, investigation workflows, case management, reporting, and control monitoring.

The successful candidate should have strong experience in fraud prevention, fraud detection, fraud investigations, financial crime, transaction monitoring, risk management, payments, or fraud analytics, preferably within banking, payments, fintech, e-commerce, insurance, lending, card services, or another high-volume transactional environment.
The candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of fraud typologies, prevention strategies, detection techniques, and risk controls.
- Proven experience developing and managing fraud-prevention programs.
- Experience investigating suspected fraudulent transactions, accounts, customers, or activities.
- Strong understanding of account takeover, identity theft, payment fraud, card fraud, application fraud, refund abuse, and related typologies.
- Strong analytical and investigative capabilities.
- Ability to identify patterns and relationships across complex transaction and customer data.
- Experience using fraud-monitoring, case-management, transaction-monitoring, or risk-decisioning systems.
- Strong understanding of fraud rules, thresholds, risk scoring, behavioral analytics, and alert management.
