Position Summary

iDC is building its own software to replace legacy vendor systems. The Operator Platform is the application our operators, customers and leadership use for warehouse operations and manufacturing. Its stack, deployment platform and core architecture are established and documented in written decision records.

The Senior Full-Stack Engineer owns a product surface on the Operator Platform end to end. The first is the manufacturing execution system (MES) that runs the iDC Made assembly line, which is mid-rollout to manufacturing customers. A second surface follows once MES reaches steady state.

The role also contributes to iDC’s AI-forward products: Travis, an AI agent that answers questions across the company’s operational data, and Pastrana, a platform where people across the business build and ship their own tools with AI. The engineer works with an AI product manager on features where a model does real work inside the product.

Scope of the Role

Platform-wide foundations (stack, deployment, authentication, observability and core architecture) are established and jointly held by the engineering team. This role owns the design of the surfaces assigned to it, including data models, integrations and new architecture decisions on those surfaces, recorded through the existing decision process.

The role works as a peer to the other full-stack engineer, who owns billing. The two review each other’s work. The role has no direct reports.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

· Full-stack development: has built both the backend and frontend of a production web application in TypeScript, with Node and React or a close equivalent.

· Relational data modeling: designs schemas and owns migrations on a transactional system, with attention to the correctness of inventory and financial data.

· Production operations: responsibility for running systems, including deployments, monitoring, on-call or equivalent, and incident response.

· Integrations: has built against external parties’ data feeds and APIs.

· Working within established architecture: works effectively in code and decisions they did not originate, and raises disagreements through the decision record.

· Correctness practices: applies reconciliation, idempotency and audit trails as standard practice.

· Code review: reviews code for correctness, including AI-generated code.

· AI-assisted development: uses AI tools as a regular part of engineering work for research and building; has built tooling for their own workflow; verifies AI output before relying on it.

· AI product features: has shipped at least one feature where a model does real work for users, including evaluation against real examples and safeguards for incorrect output.

· Communication: clear in writing and in conversation with operators, customers’ operations staff and executives, including explaining technical work to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

· Manufacturing, MES, WMS, ERP or supply-chain domain experience

· NestJS

· Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), document processing or agent workflows in production

· Replacing a legacy system that remained live during cutover

· Terraform on Azure

· Systems that handle money, including decimal precision and rounding rules

· Specifying or reviewing work for engineers outside their own team

Work Environment

· Two-person application engineering team of senior peers, with dense pairing during the first three months.

· Established stack: Azure, Node and NestJS in TypeScript, React and TypeScript frontend, Postgres, Terraform, and Microsoft Entra for authentication.

· Written decision records and documented engineering conventions.

· Direct contact with product managers, operations users at iDC and at customers, and executive leadership.

· Delivery driven by a customer rollout calendar.
