About us
At Cazoo, we like to say that we know Cazoo!
Millions of people come to us every month to find their next car, because we keep the car search process simple. We have hundreds of thousands of used cars listed for sale by dealers nationwide, and guides, advice, tips and reviews to help buyers find the right one.
We don’t just help consumers, though. For our dealer partners, we offer a unique advertising ecosystem that allows them to get their cars seen by buyers across some of the UK’s biggest car search sites: Cazoo, eBay, Gumtree and Parkers.
About the role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Full Stack Engineer to join the Dealer Services Tribe and help shape the next stage of our Dealer platform experience.
We are modernising our technology landscape, moving away from legacy systems towards a modern
TypeScript-based platform built around React, Node.js and cloud technologies. This is a significant
transformation, and we are looking for a hands-on Senior Engineer who can make a meaningful impact on both the product and the way we build and operate it.
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll report to an Engineering Manager and work as part of a cross-functional product squad. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of solutions — from technical design and implementation through testing, release and production monitoring — while working closely with Product, QA and other engineering teams.
You’ll help extend and improve our high-traffic platform, mentor engineers around you, contribute to code reviews and technical discussions, and advocate for strong engineering standards. You’ll also be expected to identify risks, dependencies and blockers early and communicate them proactively. We value engineers who challenge assumptions constructively and take responsibility for the outcomes of the solutions they build.
We expect engineers to use AI tools as part of everyday work. We provide Claude Code along with other tools and use them for writing and reviewing code, writing tests, and understanding legacy systems during the migration. You own every line you ship, however it was written.
Main responsibilities
● Design, build, test and ship maintainable software for the Dealer platform, balancing delivery speed
against technical debt, performance, reliability and security.
● Drive the replacement of legacy systems with the new TypeScript platform, making trade-offs that keep
long-term maintainability in mind.
● Own technical delivery end to end. Work with Product, QA, Platform and other squads to shape solutions, and raise risks, dependencies and blockers early.
● Use AI tools to speed up delivery: generating and refactoring code, writing tests, and analysing legacy
code. Apply the same review, testing and security standards to AI-assisted work as to any other code, and share what works with the team.
● Monitor production, investigate issues and improve the platform’s reliability.
● Raise engineering standards through code reviews and technical discussion, and grow the team through mentoring, hiring, onboarding and feedback.
Essential skills & experience
● Extensive experience building, releasing and operating production web applications, including owning
features from design through to production incidents.
● Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, with strong experience using React and Node.js including SCSS / CSS-in-JS.
● Experience designing, implementing and consuming well-structured REST APIs.
● Strong experience with automated testing at unit, integration and end-to-end levels, and the judgement to choose the right level for each case.
● Strong experience with automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end levels, with a pragmatic approach to choosing the right testing strategy.
● A track record of taking ownership of technical delivery and communicating risks, dependencies and
trade-offs proactively.
● Regular hands-on use of AI coding tools in real work, with good judgement about when the output is right, when it’s subtly wrong, and when not to use it.
Highly desirable skills (nice to have)
● Experience working with Azure and modern cloud-native applications.
● Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
● Hands-on experience with Terraform for managing cloud infrastructure.
● Experience with observability and monitoring in production systems.
● Experience with high-traffic consumer-facing applications.
● Familiarity with event-driven or microservice architectures.
● Experience with modern testing and component-development tooling such as Jest, Playwright, Cypress or Storybook.
