Description

**Local candidates only.** Applicants must currently live in the Phoenix metro area (Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, and surrounding Valley cities). Applications from outside the Valley, including out-of-state remote candidates, are automatically rejected.

## Location and In-Person Expectations

This is a remote position with regular in-person time. We get together for team lunches, company updates and training, and ad hoc conference room sessions when a project benefits from whiteboarding it out together. Day to day work happens wherever you work best.

## About Us

Five Guys Roofing is a well-established roofing company dedicated to leveraging technology to improve the experience of both our customers and our employees. Our culture is deeply rooted in family values and a strong commitment to service.

Some of what you build here reaches beyond Five Guys Roofing itself. Several companies operate under the same umbrella, and the systems we develop often serve more than one of them.

## How We Work

We run with startup energy inside an established company. That means collaboration and iterative improvements are more important than chasing perfection: get a working version in front of the people who will use it, learn what breaks, and make it better. Ownership inspires the best ideas, so we work independently on most tasks and bring the team in for feedback along the way.

Our mission is a sales and fulfillment experience that stays personal while using technology to put us a decade ahead of our industry. We live the company values of Family, Service, and Accountability by keeping our word on dates, saying things plainly, raising problems early, learning what customers actually need before we build, and investing in the platform we own.

## Position Overview

We are looking for a senior full-stack developer who is comfortable scoping, planning, and shipping projects with minimal supervision. You will join a small team of developers who are available for feedback and direction, but you will own your work end to end. We value well-rounded people who manage their own time, set realistic deadlines and hit them, and can carry more than one project at a time.

This is a senior role. You should be able to walk into an unfamiliar part of the codebase, figure out how it works, and make a good decision about what to do next.

## Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain web applications using our tech stack.

- Own projects from idea through deployment: scope the work, put a quick prototype in front of stakeholders, set delivery dates, and communicate clearly when something is at risk.

- Ship early, gather feedback, and iterate rather than waiting for a perfect first release.

- Collaborate with departments across the company to build tools that improve efficiency, automate repetitive work, and strengthen outreach.

- Integrate third-party services and APIs into our internal systems and customer-facing experiences.

- Manage the full software development lifecycle: testing, debugging, deploying, and supporting what you ship.

- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teammates, vendors, partners, and occasionally customers.

- Evaluate emerging tools and technologies and recommend improvements that keep our stack modern and maintainable.

## Tech Stack

Here is what you would be working in day to day:

- **TypeScript** across the stack

- **Node.js** (AdonisJS)

- **Svelte / SvelteKit**

- **PostgreSQL**

- **Tailwind CSS** or vanilla CSS

- **Tauri** for desktop and mobile app builds

- **Rust** where performance optimization calls for it

## How We Use AI

AI is part of how we work every day. We do not ship vibe-coded slop. Every AI-assisted change has a developer at the helm who understands it, reviews it, and is accountable for it.

In practice, we use AI for:

- **Prototyping:** every project scope includes a disposable, AI-built prototype on fake data, so stakeholders react to something real and edge cases surface before we commit to a build

- **Planning:** breaking approved scope into phases and executable tickets, and pressure-testing approaches before we write code

- **Building with guardrails:** shared skills and custom MCP tools connect our AI to our own systems and build our team conventions right in, so consistency is automatic

- **Verification and QA:** test coverage, edge case hunting, and reviewing our own work critically

- **Triage:** working from real bug reports, logs, and error tracking to get to a root cause faster

- **Documentation:** turning meeting notes into tickets and keeping internal docs and Linear accurate and current

- **In the product:** AI also ships inside what we build, such as call transcription, summaries, and quality scoring

The skill we care about is judgment: knowing when to reach for AI and how to use it well, and recognizing when your own experience points to a simpler solution.

## Recent Projects

- A cloud phone system built in-house, including a browser-based softphone with call transfers, parking, and CRM lookup

- AI-powered call intelligence: transcription, summarization, and quality scoring for customer calls

- A field capture and inspections system that turns photos and notes into branded customer reports

- Consolidated four company applications onto one shared multi-tenant platform

- Storm mapping that matches hail, wind, and rain data to our job locations, with storm history for every property we serve

## Projects On Deck

- A multi-company, multi-warehouse inventory system

- A customer portal for homeowners and property managers, expanding phase by phase

- Our own roofing CRM, replacing an off-the-shelf system and tying together calls, texts, email, estimates, and property records

- A native mobile app for our phone system

- A training and documentation platform (LMS) for onboarding and ongoing education

If you enjoy building real tools that people use every day, and you want to do it inside a family-oriented company that actually invests in technology, we would love to hear from you.

Requirements

**Local candidates only.** You must currently live in the Phoenix metro area (Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, and surrounding Valley cities). Applications from outside the Valley are automatically rejected.

## Location

Remote, with regular in-person time for team lunches, company updates and training, and occasional project working sessions.

## Salary Range

$100,000 to $135,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

## Tech Stack

- **TypeScript** across the stack

- **Node.js** (AdonisJS)

- **Svelte / SvelteKit**

- **PostgreSQL**

- **Tailwind CSS** or vanilla CSS

- **Tauri** for desktop and mobile app builds

- **Rust** where performance optimization calls for it

We don't expect anyone to be familiar with this whole stack on day one. Deep experience in a comparable stack, plus the ability to pick up the rest quickly, matters far more than exact prior experience.

## Qualifications

- 6+ years of professional software development experience

- Strong proficiency in both front-end and back-end development

- Solid grasp of the software development lifecycle, testing methodology, and debugging techniques

- Track record of owning projects independently, committing to delivery dates, and meeting them

- Comfort shipping a working first version and iterating on real feedback

- Comfort working with AI tooling as a force multiplier rather than a replacement for understanding

- Excellent communication skills: tailoring a message to the audience, collaborating closely with the team, sharing ideas openly, and speaking up early when problems arise

- A growth mindset and genuine curiosity about how things work

- Bonus: experience with CI/CD pipelines, marketing technology, CRM integrations, telephony, or the roofing industry

## Hiring Process

- **Round 1:** a 30-minute virtual screen.

- **Round 2:** for candidates who advance, an in-person interview with the team. It includes a challenge question to see how you plan, collaborate, and execute on a project.

## Additional Information

A college degree is not required. Demonstrated experience and a commitment to continuous learning matter far more to us.

In rare cases of system failure or emergency, we need someone willing to address the issue promptly, including on a weekend.
