PC / Steam / UNITY / Remote
About Us
We are TINK TEAM LTD, a UK-based technology company and newly formed independent game development studio.
Our team is currently developing multiple PC / Steam games, with a focus on engaging gameplay, polished player experience, strong visual presentation, and modern Unity workflows.
As we expand our game division, we are looking for a Senior Game Designer who can strengthen our game concepts, develop compelling mechanics, and build interconnected gameplay systems that make players want to keep playing and come back.
Quick Note About Compensation
This role works on a revenue-share basis rather than a monthly salary.
We are a new independent studio developing multiple PC games for the Steam platform, and we prefer a simple, transparent collaboration model:
You contribute to the project →
Once the game launches →
You receive your agreed share of the revenue.
This is not a co-founder offer and not a large equity stake. It is a straightforward revenue-share collaboration for game designers who enjoy building engaging games with a small, dedicated team.
If that sounds reasonable, please keep reading.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can take an existing game concept, identify what makes it compelling, and develop the mechanics and supporting systems that turn it into an enjoyable, replayable experience.
You should be comfortable playing an early build, identifying why it feels repetitive or lacks depth, and proposing practical improvements that the team can prototype and test.
This includes strengthening the core gameplay loop and introducing meaningful secondary loops, challenges, progression, mini-games, or additional game modes where they improve the experience.
We value clear reasoning behind design decisions: what an idea adds, how it connects to the rest of the game, and how we can test whether players enjoy it.
What You Will Do
- Evaluate our in-development games and identify opportunities to improve player enjoyment, engagement, and replayability.
- Design and refine core gameplay mechanics, rules, interactions, and player feedback.
- Build interconnected systems that create meaningful choices, depth, variety, and opportunities for experimentation.
- Develop secondary gameplay loops, challenges, mini-games, and additional game modes where they strengthen the core experience.
- Design and balance progression, rewards, unlocks, difficulty curves, and in-game economies where relevant.
- Give players satisfying short-term goals and meaningful longer-term reasons to continue playing and return.
- Improve onboarding, tutorials, pacing, and the introduction of new mechanics.
- Contribute to level layouts, encounter design, and gameplay pacing where required by the project.
- Create clear design documents, feature specifications, gameplay flows, and balancing sheets.
- Work closely with the Unity development team to prototype, implement, test, and refine ideas.
- Plan and review playtests, using player feedback and available gameplay data to assess design decisions.
- Prioritise improvements based on player impact, development effort, and the project’s production schedule.
Design Focus & Unity
The primary focus of this role is gameplay and systems design, including the mechanics and supporting loops that drive player enjoyment, engagement, and retention.
Depending on the project, you may also contribute to level design, encounter design, mini-games, and additional game modes.
Familiarity with Unity is required. The ability to build gameplay prototypes, configure features, and test design changes directly in Unity is a strong advantage.
Senior Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a game’s overall design vision and maintain consistency throughout production.
- Proactively identify design problems and propose achievable solutions.
- Guide the team on gameplay and systems design decisions.
- Define priorities and clear criteria for evaluating new features.
- Review implemented features and follow through on testing and refinement.
- Mentor other designers where relevant.
- Work with producers, developers, artists, and UI designers to keep the game coherent and achievable within scope.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional game design experience.
- Strong experience in gameplay and systems design.
- A track record of taking gameplay features from initial concept through implementation, playtesting, and iteration.
- Strong understanding of core loops, player motivation, meaningful choices, progression, rewards, and balancing.
- Ability to explain how your design decisions improve the player experience.
- Ability to recognise when a game needs more depth, variety, clearer goals, or stronger feedback—and design practical solutions.
- Ability to turn ideas into clear specifications that developers and artists can implement.
- Familiarity with Unity and game development workflows.
- Good communication and remote collaboration skills.
- A portfolio or relevant project examples showing your individual contribution to gameplay mechanics, systems, and design outcomes.
We also welcome strong Mid-Level candidates with 3+ years of professional game design experience who can demonstrate relevant gameplay and systems design work. Responsibilities will reflect experience and demonstrated capability.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on a released PC or Steam game.
- Experience designing action, roguelike, co-op, survival, party, or shooter games.
- Experience designing multiplayer mechanics, cooperative interactions, and complementary player roles.
- Ability to prototype and implement gameplay features directly in Unity.
- Familiarity with C#, visual scripting, or other gameplay prototyping tools.
- Experience designing secondary gameplay loops, mini-games, or additional game modes.
- Experience with level blockouts and encounter design.
- Experience using spreadsheets for balancing and progression design.
- Experience with structured playtesting and gameplay analytics.
- Experience working in a small independent development team.
