We have an opportunity available for a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer with civil/geotechnical and geosynthetics experience to join our office in Melbourne or Brisbane. This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced individual who is interested in contributing to and managing innovative and challenging projects whilst working directly with Principal and Senior Principal industry leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer, this role requires the application of the tasks listed below, but also an expanding knowledge of all elements and disciplines required.

Some of the key responsibilities may include:

• Design and assessment of geosynthetic lining, containment and capping systems for mining, resources, waste, energy and industrial applications, including tailings and mine-water facilities, process and evaporation ponds, waste containment facilities and landfills.
• Geosynthetic material selection and specification, including consideration of geomembrane durability, interface behaviour, drainage, anchorage, constructability and long-term performance.
• Engineering analysis supporting geo-environmental and geotechnical design, including earthworks, geosynthetics, drainage and stormwater management, containment systems and associated civil infrastructure.
• Condition assessment and forensic investigation of geosynthetic containment systems, including evaluation of degradation, leakage, distress and failure mechanisms, and development of practical remediation strategies.
• Developing and delivering technical reports, specifications, drawings, and documentation.
• Communicating technical findings, risk, design requirements and regulatory considerations clearly to clients and other project stakeholders.
• Planning and undertaking field investigations, inspections, construction surveillance and geosynthetic installation/CQA activities, including at remote mining and resource-sector sites.
• Managing scope, risks, and environmental impacts across multiple projects of varying scale and complexity.
• Supporting and mentoring more junior staff
• Developing and maintaining strong client relationships and contributing to business growth.

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor's degree in civil, geotechnical, geo-environmental or environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline. (required)
• Advanced degree in civil, geotechnical, geo-environmental or environmental engineering, or a related field. (preferred)
• Chartered status, RPEQ registration or eligibility to obtain relevant professional registration is desirable.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Typically 5+ years of relevant consulting or industry experience, although exceptional candidates with less experience will also be considered.
• Demonstrated experience with geosynthetic liner or containment systems, including design, material selection, specification, construction, inspection and/or condition assessment. (required)
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and travelling to client facilities as needed.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
