Senior HR Manager
Pune, India (hybrid, office-anchored) | Own India HR end-to-end for a global, mission-driven company
The Securly safetyOS™ protects 20M+ students across 20,000+ schools and is credited with helping save 2,400+ student lives. If you want to be the senior People leader who makes a growing India team feel like one seamless part of a global company, this is the role.
At a glance
- Location: Pune, India – hybrid, 2–3 days per week in office
- Compensation: ₹27–32 LPA
- Reports to: VP of Operations, India and VP of People (US)
- Scope: Senior HR presence for 100 Software Engineering employees in Pune
The role
Securly is a K-12 school safety technology company headquartered in the US, with 80–90 employees in Pune who work from the office 2–3 days per week. You will be the senior People leader for India — the trusted first stop for every employee and manager in Pune, and the person who makes sure our India operation runs as one seamless part of a global company rather than a satellite.
This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. You'll report to the VP of Operations, India and the VP of People (US), partner directly with India site leadership, and own India HR end-to-end.
You'll own:
- Business partnership: Act as the HR partner for all Pune managers and employees: employee relations, performance management, coaching, organizational questions, and sensitive matters handled with discretion and sound judgment.
- Global program execution: Localize and run global People programs in India — merit and compensation cycles, performance reviews, engagement surveys, career frameworks, and manager development — adapting for India market norms while keeping the company consistent worldwide.
- Compliance ownership: Own India statutory and labor compliance: Shops & Establishments, PF, ESI, gratuity, professional tax, leave administration, and statutory registers, in partnership with our payroll/compliance vendor. Maintain POSH compliance, including the Internal Committee, annual training, and complaint handling.
- Talent partnership: Coordinate India recruiting with our US-based Director of Talent Acquisition: local market intelligence, offer construction, candidate experience, and onboarding. You are not a full-desk recruiter, but you are the on-the-ground talent partner.
- Employee lifecycle: Own onboarding through offboarding — documentation, background verification, exits, and full and final settlements — with clean records in our HRIS and reliable headcount and attrition reporting.
- Leadership advisory: Advise US leadership on India: compensation and benefits norms, employment law changes, cultural context, and site health. Flag risks early and bring recommendations, not just questions.
- Site culture: Partner with the Admin & Workplace Experience Manager and site leaders to make Pune a place people want to work — engagement, recognition, events, and a strong in-office experience on hybrid days.
What success looks like
You'll get a structured onboarding with support from US and India leadership. The milestones below show what the work typically looks like as you build up.
First 30 days
- Meet Pune managers and employees one-on-one, and build working rhythms with the VP of People (US) and VP of Operations, India
- Get to know our HRIS, India policies, and payroll/compliance vendor, and review the state of statutory registers and POSH compliance
- Become the go-to first stop for employee and manager questions in Pune
Days 60–90
- Handle employee relations and sensitive matters end-to-end with discretion and sound judgment
- Tighten onboarding-through-offboarding workflows, documentation, and background verification
- Deliver reliable headcount and attrition reporting, and bring early risks and recommendations to US leadership
By the 6-month mark
- Run at least one global People program in India (such as a performance review, merit cycle, or engagement survey), adapted for India market norms
- Partner with Talent Acquisition on India offers, candidate experience, and onboarding
- Put lightweight, repeatable processes in place where they were missing
12 months
- Own India HR end-to-end with clean compliance and records
- Act as the trusted advisor to US leadership on India comp and benefits norms, employment law changes, and site health
- Partner with the Admin & Workplace Experience Manager and site leaders on a strong engagement, recognition, and in-office culture
Milestones are typical examples, not fixed requirements. Specific goals are set by your managers and may change based on business needs.
Who we're looking for
You'll bring:
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience in India, including 3+ years leading HR for a site or business unit as the senior HR presence.
- Experience in a global or US-headquartered organization — you know how to represent India within a global People function, work async across time zones, and translate between HQ intent and local reality.
- Deep working knowledge of Indian employment law and statutory compliance (PF, ESI, gratuity, POSH, Shops & Establishments), with experience managing payroll/compliance vendors.
- Based in Pune with regular in-office presence, and availability for recurring early-morning or evening calls with the US.
What sets you apart:
- Employee relations judgment: A track record of handling confidential, sensitive matters with fairness and discretion.
- Solo operator: Comfortable operating solo — you build lightweight processes, execute hands-on, and don't need a team beneath you to deliver.
- Clear communicator: Clear, direct communicator in English, in writing and in the room; recommendation-first with executives.
Nice to have:
- Experience scaling or professionalizing HR at a growing India site of a global company (GCC or product company).
- Exposure to compensation benchmarking and salary band work for India.
- MBA/PGDM in HR or equivalent.
A realistic look at the job
You're the only senior HR person on site, so the work is varied and hands-on: an employee relations conversation in the morning, a compliance register or vendor check-in in the afternoon, and a call with US leadership in the evening. You'll balance HQ priorities with what Pune actually needs, and you'll often be the person who translates between the two. It suits someone who likes ownership and doesn't need a large team to get things done.
Hybrid, office-anchored in Pune, 2–3 days per week in office. Recurring early-morning or evening calls with the US. Candidates must be based in Pune or willing to relocate before start.
Where this role leads
We promote from within and invest in our people. As our India team grows, this role is positioned to grow with it, with the opportunity to build out India People operations over time.
Compensation and benefits
₹27–32 LPA
- Hybrid work model
- Comprehensive health insurance (employee, spouse, children, and parents)
- Accidental and term life insurance
- Learning and development reimbursement
- Paid time off
- Public holidays (10+ per year)
- Retirement benefits (EPF and gratuity)
- Equipment and work-from-home setup support
- Parental leave (as per statutory norms)
