Role Description

SMBC is seeking a Senior HR Generalist to join our Tralee office. This role supports local business units by providing practical HR guidance and partnering closely with managers on a broad range of people matters. As part of the Human Resources Business Partner team, the successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor, helping managers navigate employee relations matters, performance management, workplace challenges and employment legislation.

This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced HR professional who can operate independently, confidently apply Irish employment law and deliver pragmatic people solutions. The role offers exposure to a variety of business areas while contributing to key HR initiatives, annual people processes and business growth objectives.

This role reports to the Senior HR Business Partner.


Role Objectives

  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support to managers and employees across a broad range of people matters.
  • Advise managers on Irish employment legislation, HR policies and best practice.
  • Lead and support employee relations matters including disciplinary, grievance, absence management and performance processes.
  • Coach and upskill managers in employee management, performance conversations, conflict resolution and career development discussions.
  • Support talent management, succession planning and annual HR processes to strengthen employee performance and business capability.
  • Partner with Senior HRBPs to support workforce planning, organisational effectiveness and change management initiatives.
  • Identify people risks and recommend practical solutions to support business objectives.
  • Ensure consistent application of employment policies and compliance with employment legislation.
  • Collaborate with HR Centres of Excellence including Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Talent Management and HR Operations.
  • Build trusted working relationships across the business and act as a first point of contact for HR advice and guidance.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant third-level qualification or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years’ progressive HR experience, ideally in an HR Generalist or HR Advisor role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters independently.
  • Proven ability to coach and influence managers across a range of employee and workplace issues.
  • Solid understanding of HR principles Irish employment law and recognised HR best practices.
  • Excellent communication problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across different business areas and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
