Join the European Pirates HR Team

European Pirates is the European political organisation bringing together Pirate parties from across Europe. Together, we work to promote digital rights, democracy, transparency, privacy, civil liberties, citizen participation and evidence-based policymaking at the European level.

To strengthen our internal organisation and support our growing network of volunteers, we are expanding our Human Resources Team and recruiting for four volunteer positions. These roles focus on coordinating and supporting other HR volunteers, helping ensure that recruitment, onboarding, volunteer engagement, and offboarding processes are carried out consistently and effectively across the organisation.

Whether you have experience in human resources, volunteer management, recruitment, team coordination, or organisational development, you'll help create an environment where volunteers feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to contribute. If you're passionate about supporting volunteers, and would like to contribute your skills to a pan-european team, we'd love to hear from you.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:

Deputy HR Team Lead & Recruitment Coordinator

Support the HR Team Lead in coordinating the HR team's work and guiding recruitment activities across the organisation. Provide advice, oversight, and quality assurance to team members conducting recruitment, ensuring consistent and effective processes. Work closely with departmental Team Leads to identify staffing needs, improve recruitment procedures, and support the development of the HR team. The role focuses on coordination and leadership rather than conducting recruitment directly.

Onboarding Coordinator

Coordinate the integration of new volunteers into the European Pirates, ensuring they receive a welcoming and structured introduction to the organisation. Work with recruiters and Team Leads to facilitate orientation, administrative procedures, and access to organisational resources. Follow up with new volunteers during their initial period, helping them settle into their teams and become active contributors.

Retention Coordinator

Help strengthen volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and long-term participation across the organisation. Maintain regular contact with volunteers, gather feedback, and work with Team Leads to identify and address challenges affecting motivation or participation. Support opportunities for volunteer development, help prevent unnecessary turnover, and contribute to a positive and sustainable volunteering experience.

Offboarding Coordinator

Coordinate the departure of volunteers, ensuring that transitions are handled professionally, respectfully, and efficiently. Work with departing volunteers and Team Leads to facilitate knowledge transfer, complete administrative procedures, and gather feedback through exit interviews. Help preserve organisational knowledge, maintain positive relationships with former volunteers, and identify opportunities to improve the overall volunteer experience.

Across these roles, you will:

Help build and strengthen the European Pirates' international volunteer organisation, collaborate with volunteers and Team Leads from across Europe, and contribute to effective recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and offboarding processes. You will help develop transparent and inclusive HR practices and support a positive environment where volunteers can contribute meaningfully.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for people with strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, and experience or an interest in HR, recruitment, volunteer management, or organisational development.

You should be comfortable working independently in a distributed, international team, have a structured and supportive approach to working with volunteers, and share our commitment to transparency, civil liberties, and an open digital society.

All four positions are voluntary and require approximately 3–4 hours per week.

What We Offer

A meaningful role in developing a European-level political organisation, working alongside a supportive international team of volunteers. You'll have opportunities to develop your skills in HR coordination, volunteer management, and organisational development, with flexible, remote engagement and the possibility of taking on additional responsibilities.
