Summary
We're hiring a Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer to automate how we run, report on and health-check our Linux, storage and backup environment. You'll write Python and Ansible to replace manual work: Linux patching, storage quota and file reporting, backup reporting, and health checks across the infrastructure.
You'll join the DevOps team and work closely with the engineers who run these platforms every day. The tools you build will be used across multiple client environments.
The work involves on-premises infrastructure, including physical and virtual Linux servers, storage clusters, and backup systems in client data centers.
Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) isn’t required.
Core Responsibilities
Linux patching automation: Build and maintain Ansible playbooks that patch Linux servers end to end: pre-checks, patching, reboots, post-checks and compliance reporting.
Server build automation: Automate Linux server builds with Ansible so every new physical or virtual server is deployed to a consistent, hardened standard.
Storage: Build reports on file data (ownership, age, size, growth and quotas) by pulling data from various systems and databases.
Backup: Pull data from APIs to report on backup success, failures, missed clients and retention.
API integration: Write Python tools that collect and combine data from REST APIs (storage, backup and infrastructure platforms) into clear, scheduled reports.
Health checks: Develop tools that check the health of storage and Linux infrastructure, flag problems early and, where safe, fix common issues automatically.
Documentation and handover: Keep code in Git, document how each automation works, and train the team to run and support it.
On-call
This role joins the team’s on-call rotation, providing after-hours support for our platforms.

Experience building scheduled reports from several data sources

Enterprise storage, backup or data protection background
Experience in a managed services or multi-client environment
Red Hat certification (RHCSA, RHCE) or Ansible certification
Personal Attributes
Strong ownership mindset with a track record of leading technical initiatives.
Positive, collaborative approach to mentoring engineers.
