Senior Intelligence Analyst

TrapWire helps government agencies and the private sector protect people and critical infrastructure by making better use of their reporting, identifying connections, and understanding emerging threats. We are seeking a Senior Intelligence Analyst to produce clear, well-supported intelligence for our customers and to lead the development of the analytical tradecraft behind it.

This role has two core responsibilities. You will combine TrapWire holdings, including suspicious activity reporting, with independent open source research to produce intelligence that answers customer requirements. You will also lead the development of our analytical standards, sourcing practices, and review process so that every product the team releases meets a consistent, defensible bar.

In a small company supporting consequential missions, your work will directly shape our analytical capability and how customers use it.

What Success Looks Like

  • Customers act on your work. They receive timely, clearly written intelligence that answers their requirements and explains threat patterns using TrapWire data and independent research.
  • Our products meet a written standard. You have led the team in publishing an analytic style, sourcing, and confidence guide adapted from ICD 203 and ICD 206.
  • Review is routine and useful. A review checklist is in use on every disseminated product, and peer review measurably catches sourcing and judgment problems before release.
  • Customers get better at analysis. Customer analysts receive effective quality-control and matching support and use TrapWire analytical features and workflows more capably.
  • Feedback turns into improvements. Customer input has led to at least one new or improved product line and specific software recommendations to the Product team.

What You Will Own

Intelligence production

  • Produce recurring and tailored analytical products. Help customers understand their data, identify relevant connections and threat patterns, and make informed operational decisions.
  • Analyze suspicious activity reporting. Examine customer reporting for completeness and consistency, evaluate potential matches and relationships, and distinguish meaningful indicators of pre-operational activity from coincidence or insufficient evidence. Research information gaps and state the limits of apparent connections.
  • Plan and conduct open source collection. Use automated tools, manual research, and social media research to enrich or challenge assessments based on TrapWire holdings. Evaluate and corroborate sources, maintain traceable sourcing, and operate within applicable legal, privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties protections.

Analytical Tradecraft

  • Develop TrapWire analytical standards. Write and maintain our style, sourcing, confidence, and collection guidance, adapted from ICD 203 and ICD 206 to TrapWire products and customers.
  • Run a rigorous review process. Build and maintain review criteria, review colleagues' products, and incorporate their review of yours. Give candid, specific feedback that improves the work.
  • Raise the team's skills. Share effective methods, develop repeatable workflows, and evaluate new analytical and collection tools.

Customer and Product Support

  • Engage customer analysts and stakeholders. Understand their intelligence requirements, tailor products, brief findings, and advise on analytical workflows.
  • Train customers on TrapWire analytical features. Provide practical support and analytical training that makes customers more capable users.
  • Shape the product. Recommend software improvements to the Product team based on customer feedback and your own assessment of analytical needs.

The Person We Are Looking For

  • Cares about the mission. You want your analysis to help protect people and give customers a clearer understanding of the threats they face.
  • Follows the evidence. You evaluate sources critically, challenge assumptions, consider alternative explanations, and revise your judgments when the evidence warrants it.
  • Holds a high bar and helps others reach it. You care about how intelligence is made, not only what it says, and you can explain a standard well enough that colleagues adopt it.
  • Welcomes rigorous review. You accept constructive criticism, give candid and respectful feedback, and take shared responsibility for the quality of the team's work.
  • Takes initiative and follows through. You manage competing priorities, deliver reliably without close supervision, and know when to seek input.
  • Communicates clearly. You listen to customers, understand the decisions they need to make, and explain complex findings in plain language to analysts, operators, and technical colleagues.
  • Stays curious. You investigate unfamiliar subjects, learn new tools quickly, and share what works.

What You Bring

  • Five or more years of substantive intelligence-analysis experience supporting government or private-sector intelligence organizations, with relevant education, formal training, or equivalent demonstrated expertise in structured analytic methods.
  • A record of independently producing finished intelligence. Clear key judgments, supported arguments, a clear line between reporting and assessment, and precise communication of uncertainty, confidence, and implications.
  • Working command of ICD 203 and ICD 206. You can apply analytic and sourcing standards and adapt them to a commercial product and non-IC customers.
  • Experience improving other analysts' work. You have served as a peer reviewer, editor, trainer, or contributor to writing guidance or tradecraft standards, and can point to how your feedback improved products.
  • Hands-on OSINT collection experience. Requirements-driven collection planning, automated and manual methods, social media research, source evaluation and corroboration, collection-gap identification, traceable sourcing, and sound operational security.
  • Understanding of legal and policy limits on collection and analysis. Familiarity with privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties protections that apply to information about US persons and to law enforcement intelligence.

Preferred

  • Intelligence Community experience, particularly in roles with formal analytic standards and product review.
  • Experience analyzing suspicious activity reporting, including familiarity with the ISE-SAR Functional Standard, behavioral indicators of pre-operational activity, and 28 CFR Part 23.
  • Physical-threat, protective intelligence, counterterrorism, or surveillance detection experience and expertise. Strong geopolitical, corporate, and other relevant intelligence backgrounds are also welcome.
  • Experience supporting fusion centers, law enforcement, or DoD force protection customers.
  • Experience evaluating analytical and collection tools and building repeatable methods colleagues can use.

Work Arrangement

This is a full-time employee position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The role is primarily telework. Location in the Washington, DC area is preferred but is not required. An active security clearance is not currently required; candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance if future work requires one.

Candidates should be prepared to discuss their collection methods and analytical judgments and demonstrate their skills through a releasable writing sample and short practical assessment. Do not submit confidential, classified, or proprietary material.
