Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity for a senior internal auditor within our internal audit group. Our high-performing team is made up of diverse perspectives, creative minds, and an inherent drive to get the job done. You will find opportunities to grow professionally and personally in a collaborative environment where you will be respected and rewarded for your ideas and achievements.

In this role, you will lead or support internal audit engagements of varying complexity and scope across financial, regulatory, operational, and compliance processes. The senior internal auditor serves as the day-to-day lead and key point of contact for assigned engagements, coordinating the engagement team, maintaining stakeholder alignment, and driving work through completion in accordance with approved scope, quality standards, and timelines.

The ideal candidate is a motivated, detail-oriented professional with strong communication, organization, and leadership skills. This individual is comfortable managing multiple priorities, working independently, guiding engagement team members, reviewing others' work, and analyzing information across business processes to identify risks, opportunities, and practical solutions. This role provides engagement leadership and coaching but does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead auditor on assigned engagements of manageable risk and complexity, with accountability for day-to-day execution, team coordination, work quality, stakeholder communication, and timely completion.
  • Plan and scope audit work in coordination with the audit manager, including risk assessment, scope refinement, resource coordination, and development of the audit test plan.
  • Lead audit planning and execution activities; establish priorities, clarify responsibilities and deadlines, monitor progress, and proactively address obstacles that may affect delivery.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for auditees and stakeholders throughout the engagement, facilitating walkthroughs, status meetings, and other key audit discussions.
  • Connect audit activities across team members to promote complete and efficient coverage and identify gaps, overlaps, dependencies, and emerging risks.
  • Perform and oversee risk-based audit procedures, including interviews, walkthroughs, process and transaction-flow reviews, detailed transaction testing, inquiries, observations, and analysis of results.
  • Review workpapers, narratives, testing results, and supporting documentation completed by other auditors to confirm procedures were performed as designed and conclusions are adequately supported.
  • Maintain alignment among audit objectives, risks, procedures, findings, and conclusions, and ensure audit documentation complies with Internal Audit methodology, IIA standards, and applicable requirements.
  • Identify financial and business process risks, control gaps, and opportunities for improvement; develop, review, and discuss practical findings and actionable recommendations with management and the audit team.
  • Draft audit reports and clearly communicate audit results, including difficult or sensitive matters, through verbal presentations and written reports; work with stakeholders to build understanding and alignment around findings and recommended actions.
  • Provide timely coaching, technical guidance, and constructive feedback to engagement team members; share audit insights and best practices while supporting the development of less-experienced auditors.
  • Perform audits professionally and contribute to continuous improvement of audit practices, tools, and team effectiveness.
  • Proactively participate in career management, performance management, and skill development to prepare for future assignments.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, IT, or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive work experience in a combination of audit, finance, accounting, business planning and analysis, operational excellence, risk and compliance, or business process management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects or engagement teams, coordinate work across contributors, and deliver high-quality results within established timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to travel up to 15% to locations both domestic and/or internationally.
  • Ability to work in the office a minimum of three days per week.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect disparate data, evaluate information from multiple sources, navigate ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and develop practical solutions to complex business issues.
  • Strong project leadership, organization, and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and keep an engagement team aligned.
  • In-depth knowledge of internal audit principles, practices, and methodologies, with a working understanding of related financial, operational, regulatory, compliance, and business disciplines.
  • Ability to provide clear review feedback and practical coaching while maintaining accountability for work-product quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, with the cultural awareness needed to collaborate across a global organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through, exercise sound judgment, and independently deliver high-quality work.
  • CPA, CIA, MBA, CISA, or another related certification.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. If required, selected candidates must pass pre-employment screenings to include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements and FMSCA Clearinghouse.
