Senior Java Developer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Join Hexa as a Senior Java Spring Boot Developer and contribute to the development of secure, scalable backend solutions for the banking sector. You will work within an international engineering environment, supporting payment-related applications and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

This opportunity is based in Lisbon, following a Hybrid model with two office days per week.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Develop and maintain Java-based microservices and APIs supporting financial transactions and business operations.

- Design reliable backend components with a focus on maintainability, scalability, security and performance.

- Translate functional and technical requirements into sustainable software solutions in collaboration with engineering and business teams.

- Implement secure communication mechanisms between distributed services and external systems.

- Improve application reliability through testing, debugging, performance analysis and code reviews.

- Contribute to the standardization of development practices, architecture patterns and software quality.

- Support the optimization of automated integration, testing and deployment processes.

- Collaborate with international teams in an Agile development environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- 6 to 9 years of professional experience in Java development, particularly in backend and microservices environments.

- Academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

- Proven ability to deliver complex backend solutions with technical autonomy and attention to software quality.

- Strong analytical capabilities and a structured approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving.

- Professional working proficiency in English, at B2/C1 level or equivalent, for daily international collaboration.

- Effective communication skills and a collaborative, proactive and solution-oriented working approach.

- Availability to work from the Lisbon office two days per week.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Java 17/21 and object-oriented programming principles.

- Spring Boot 3.x, Spring MVC, Spring Security and Spring Data JPA.

- Microservices architecture, distributed systems and enterprise design patterns.

- RESTful APIs, API-first development and service integration.

- OAuth 2.0, JWT and secure API communication.

- SQL databases, including Oracle or PostgreSQL.

- Data modeling, query optimization and database performance.

- Multithreading, concurrency and application performance optimization.

- CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, XL Deploy, XL Release or equivalent tools.

- Automated testing, code quality practices and technical debugging.

- Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, with Jira.

NICE TO HAVE

- Frontend development experience with Angular, preferably recent versions.

- Experience contributing to Fullstack application development.

- Professional working proficiency in French.

- Familiarity with banking systems or payment processing environments.
