Senior Java Developer

We are seeking a Senior Java Developer who combines strong Java and Spring engineering with ownership of production services and effective AI-assisted development. The ideal candidate can independently design and deliver reliable backend solutions, mentor colleagues and clearly communicate technical decisions. This role requires practical cloud knowledge and the ability to use AI-enabled tools responsibly throughout the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and deploy production-ready Java services and APIs using Spring Boot and appropriate microservice patterns
• Own complex features from requirements refinement and component design through implementation, release and production support
• Evaluate design alternatives and document decisions, diagrams and trade-offs for performance, security, scalability and maintainability
• Implement efficient persistence, SQL queries, caching and messaging integrations, with appropriate transaction handling and resilience
• Build automated unit, component and integration tests; participate in code reviews and improve code quality and technical debt
• Containerize applications and contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment on at least one cloud platform
• Troubleshoot distributed applications using logs, metrics, traces and profiling; resolve performance and reliability issues
• Use AI-enabled development tools for coding, refactoring, debugging, testing and documentation; validate generated changes for correctness, security and scope
• Apply reusable prompts and safe agentic workflows, and integrate external AI APIs into Java services with appropriate validation and error handling
• Collaborate directly with clients and cross-functional teams to refine requirements, demonstrate results and explain technical choices
• Mentor less experienced engineers, share knowledge and contribute to predictable delivery and continuous engineering improvement

Requirements

• 3+ years of Java development experience, with a good understanding of object-oriented design, concurrency and troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and building REST APIs
• Experience developing microservices and applying practical design patterns
• Good SQL and relational database skills, with experience using JPA/Hibernate or a similar persistence framework
• Working knowledge of messaging, caching and NoSQL concepts; experience with relevant tools is valued
• Experience writing automated tests, reviewing code and applying secure development practices
• Familiarity with Git, Maven or Gradle, CI/CD pipelines and Docker
• Working knowledge of at least one cloud platform: AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure
• Good command of at least one AI-enabled development setup, such as VS Code with GitHub Copilot, IntelliJ IDEA with an AI assistant, or Claude Code, including reviewing generated code and protecting confidential data
• Ability to own features independently, explain technical choices and support less experienced colleagues
• Good collaboration skills and English at B2 level or above for working with clients and Agile teams

Nice to have

• Experience in Financial Services, such as banking, payments, capital markets or insurance, is particularly valued
• Experience building AI solutions in Java, for example using Spring AI or integrating LLM APIs
• Exposure to Kubernetes, infrastructure as code or cloud-native development
• Experience with performance testing or modernizing existing Java applications
• Experience building reusable components or sharing knowledge through mentoring, technical talks or open-source contributions
