Senior Java Software Developer

Our client, is seeking an experienced, highly collaborative Software Developer - Java to join their AI & Open Data Enablement engineering group.

In this mission-critical development role, you will embed directly into an Agile delivery pod responsible for engineering foundational, enterprise-scale platforms that enable secure data sharing, real-time event streaming, and regulatory compliance (such as Open Banking, Digital Event Streaming, and Customer Consent Management). You will design, develop, test, and maintain robust backend and full-stack solutions, working closely with cross-functional partners including Business Systems Analysts, Quality Engineers, and Product Owners. This role offers an opportunity to build high-throughput, reliable services that power next-generation digital experiences and AI-driven data initiatives across a leading financial ecosystem.

Duration: 1-Year Contract (Possibility of extension or permanent conversion based on performance and business needs)

Responsibilities

Agile Engineering & Pod Delivery: Embed within a cross-functional Agile pod, actively participating in standard ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos, and retrospectives).

Feature Development & Maintenance: Design, code, test, and deploy clean, well-architected Java backend and full-stack solutions aligned to platform roadmaps and strict enterprise quality benchmarks.

API & Service Integration: Build and maintain scalable REST APIs, microservices, and integrations that enable secure data flows and customer-controlled preferences.

Platform Quality & Automation: Drive platform reliability by implementing automated unit and integration tests, participating in code reviews, and addressing technical debt.

Technical Documentation: Author and maintain clear technical artifacts, including API specifications, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and onboarding guides in Confluence.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner daily with engineers, BSAs, QEs, and product managers to clarify requirements, troubleshoot defects, and take features from backlog to production deployment.

Qualifications

Java Mastery: 5+ years of hands-on professional software development experience specializing in Java.

Backend / Full-Stack Expertise: 5+ years of dedicated backend or full-stack engineering experience delivering scalable enterprise applications and REST APIs.

Agile Delivery Experience: Proven track record working within structured Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

Collaboration Tools: Practical, hands-on experience utilizing Jira for backlog management and Confluence for technical documentation.

Communication & Mindset: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an adaptable, self-motivated approach and the ability to operate effectively both independently and collaboratively.

Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field is considered an asset; practical, proven experience is prioritized.

Preferred Assets & Nice-to-Haves

Hands-on frontend development experience with Angular.

Practical working knowledge of NoSQL database platforms (e.g., Azure Cosmos DB or MongoDB).

Previous domain experience within banking, wealth management, or enterprise financial services.
