Through robust testing procedures, effective equipment management, rigorous documentation, and continuous improvement, we aim to deliver dependable laboratory results that support material evaluation, quality assurance, research, and compliance with applicable standards.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Scientist to oversee laboratory testing activities, perform complex scientific analyses, validate test results, maintain laboratory quality systems, and support technical decision-making across relevant project and operational requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in laboratory procedures, analytical techniques, quality control, scientific instrumentation, data interpretation, method validation, laboratory safety, and technical reporting.

This role will focus on ensuring the accuracy, reliability, traceability, and integrity of laboratory results while supporting the development and improvement of testing methods and laboratory processes. The Senior Laboratory Scientist will collaborate with laboratory technicians, quality assurance teams, engineers, project managers, consultants, external laboratories, and other stakeholders to ensure that testing activities comply with approved procedures, relevant technical standards, and applicable United Arab Emirates laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily laboratory activities and ensure that testing and analytical work is conducted in accordance with approved procedures, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate laboratory workloads based on project schedules, sample volumes, testing requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Perform complex laboratory analyses and specialized testing within the assigned scientific discipline and authorized scope of work.
  • Review testing requests, sample information, analytical requirements, and acceptance criteria before laboratory work begins.
  • Develop, review, and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures, work instructions, analytical protocols, and testing guidelines.
  • Ensure that laboratory methods are appropriate for their intended purpose and consistent with applicable technical standards.
  • Evaluate new or revised testing methods and recommend improvements to analytical accuracy, efficiency, and reproducibility.
  • Support method development, verification, validation, and implementation activities where required.
  • Establish appropriate analytical controls, calibration checks, reference materials, and quality control measures.
  • Verify that laboratory procedures are followed consistently and that deviations are documented and assessed.
  • Review test data, calculations, instrument outputs, and analytical observations for completeness, consistency, and technical validity.
  • Evaluate unusual, inconsistent, or unexpected results and determine whether further investigation or repeat testing is necessary.
  • Identify potential sources of analytical error, including sample contamination, instrument drift, procedural deviations, and calculation errors.
  • Investigate discrepancies between repeat measurements, historical results, reference values, and established acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure that laboratory results are supported by appropriate evidence, quality control records, and traceable analytical documentation.
  • Review and approve laboratory reports within the scope of assigned authority and technical competence.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and technically defensible test reports, analytical summaries, and scientific interpretations.
  • Communicate significant findings, limitations, anomalies, and potential quality concerns to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, preparation, analysis, testing conditions, instrument settings, observations, and final results.
  • Ensure that laboratory documentation is complete, controlled, and readily retrievable for authorized review and audit purposes.
  • Manage sample identification, labeling, registration, storage, preservation, preparation, and disposal in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain sample traceability throughout the testing lifecycle, including transfer between personnel, work areas, and external laboratories.
  • Verify that sample quantities, condition, packaging, and preservation methods are suitable for the requested analyses.
  • Establish appropriate sample acceptance and rejection criteria and document any exceptions or irregularities.
  • Coordinate sample collection, transport, receipt, and chain-of-custody documentation with field teams, project personnel, and external service providers.
  • Ensure that samples are stored under appropriate environmental conditions to preserve their integrity before and after testing.
  • Monitor sample retention periods and coordinate secure archiving or disposal in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Operate, configure, and oversee the use of laboratory instruments and analytical equipment within the approved scope of work.
  • Ensure that laboratory instruments are maintained, calibrated, verified, and serviced according to manufacturer recommendations and quality system requirements.
  • Review calibration certificates, maintenance records, performance checks, and instrument qualification documentation.
  • Identify instrument malfunctions, abnormal performance, and calibration failures that could affect analytical reliability.
  • Remove unsuitable equipment from service when necessary and coordinate corrective action with maintenance providers or authorized technicians.
  • Assess the impact of equipment failures or calibration issues on previously generated results where appropriate.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of laboratory instruments, consumables, reagents, reference standards, and other essential materials.
  • Coordinate procurement requests for laboratory supplies, chemicals, reagents, sample containers, and specialized equipment.
  • Verify that received materials meet required specifications and are stored in accordance with supplier instructions and safety requirements.
  • Monitor reagent preparation, labeling, expiry dates, storage conditions, and usage records.
  • Ensure that reference materials and control samples are managed appropriately and used within their specified validity periods.
  • Develop and monitor laboratory quality control plans, including blanks, duplicates, reference samples, control charts, and other relevant checks.
  • Analyze quality control trends and identify shifts, drift, variability, or recurring deviations that may affect result reliability.
  • Establish appropriate acceptance criteria for quality control measurements in accordance with approved methods and quality system requirements.
  • Initiate investigations when quality control results fall outside established limits or indicate potential analytical problems.
  • Document non-conformities and coordinate corrective and preventive actions with relevant personnel.
  • Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions and recommend further measures when issues recur.
