Senior Lawyer Writer, Commercial (12-month FTC)

Job Description We're seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer Writer with a passion for translating complex commercial legal concepts into clear, practical guidance. This is a unique opportunity to shape how legal knowledge is created and delivered in the modern era, while exploring the potential of emerging technologies including generative AI. This role is offered as a 12-month full-time fixed-term contract to provide parental leave coverage, with the flexibility to work fully remotely from anywhere in Australia or in a hybrid arrangement. Key Responsibilities In this opportunity as a Senior Lawyer Writer, Commercial, Practical Law Australia, you will: Write, edit and update legal know-how resources related to Commercial legal practice, including practice notes, checklists, standard documents and clauses, drafting notes and legal updates, in accordance with our established writing style and guidance, ensuring published content is accurate, current and premium quality. Keep up to date on market and regulatory developments in Commercial legal practice, and translate these into timely, practical content for subscribers. Explore and help pilot generative AI and other emerging technologies to improve how legal know-how content is created, maintained and delivered. Required Qualifications You’re a fit for the role of Senior Lawyer Writer, Commercial, Practical Law Australia if you have the following required qualifications: Admitted to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with 5 years+ PQE experience as a commercial lawyer, most recently in a top/mid-tier private practice or in-house role. Excellent legal writing skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to distil complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance. Strong technical skills and ability to use various technologies, including generative AI tools, to enhance productivity and accuracy. Able to work independently and manage your own workload, while communicating proactively with your manager and the wider Practical Law team. A solutions-focused, "get it done" mindset. Collaborative, flexible, and analytical, with a genuine interest in reimagining how legal know-how is created and delivered. Preferred Qualifications Experience in and knowledge of some (not necessarily all) of the following areas: supply of goods and services, supply chains, agency, distribution, outsourcing, and ESG/ethical trading, and advertising and marketing. #LI-SC1 What’s in it For You?
