About UNSW
At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work. We aspire to be Australia’s global university, improving and transforming lives through excellence in research, outstanding education and a commitment to advancing a just society.
Why your role matters
UNSW Planning and Performance (UPP) is a trusted strategic partner to university leaders, using business intelligence, forecasting, and performance insights to support better decisions across the University.
In the newly created role of Senior Lead, Reporting & Insights, you will shape the strategy, governance, and continuous improvement of UPP’s extensive reporting and dashboard ecosystem. Covering portfolios including student and load forecasting, government reporting, faculty and university performance, and societal impact, you will ensure UPP’s reporting products are purposeful, trusted, accessible, and aligned with organisational priorities.
This is an opportunity to bring greater clarity and value to a complex reporting environment. You will lead the review, prioritisation, consolidation, redesign, and retirement of reporting products, helping address dashboard fatigue and ensuring effort is focused on the information that matters most. You will engage with stakeholders across faculties, schools, and professional divisions to understand how decisions are made, translate complex needs into clear priorities, and guide analysts and technical specialists in delivering high-quality, fit-for-purpose insights.
Reporting to the Head, Forecasting and Reporting, you will operate with a high degree of autonomy and influence without direct reports. By establishing consistent standards for data integrity, visualisation, usability, and accessibility, you will help strengthen reporting capability across UPP and make a tangible difference to how leaders across UNSW understand performance and act on evidence.
About the Role
The successful applicant will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:
- Lead the overall product strategy and governance framework across the university's reporting and dashboard portfolios.
- Establish governance processes to evaluate, prioritize, maintain, and retire reporting assets effectively.
- Set consistent standards for usability, data integrity, and best-practice visualisation across all outputs.
- Monitor portfolio usage and lead initiatives to consolidate, redesign, and streamline reporting tools.
- Engage key stakeholders across faculties and divisions to translate complex needs into clear reporting specifications.
- Guide analysts and technical teams in delivering high-quality, user-centred insights and building internal capability.
About You
- Extensive experience delivering reporting and business intelligence solutions using Power BI and tools like Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and complex SQL.
- Proven track record leading the design, governance, and continuous improvement of reporting products and analytical frameworks in complex environments.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills to navigate ambiguity, solve complex problems, and apply sound judgment.
- Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business needs into clear specifications.
- Demonstrated experience establishing standards for data governance, accessibility, and universal design in data visualisation.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage competing priorities, balance strategic and operational demands, and drive user-centred outcomes.
- Strong alignment with UNSW's aims, objectives, values, and workplace policies.
