POSITION SUMMARY (“What are we looking for?”)

The Sr. Manager, Demand Planning owns the Company's demand forecast and leads the analytical groundwork for the monthly Demand Consensus process, a critical input to S&OP. This is a one-person function with no direct reports or analyst support: the role gathers inputs across teams but builds the models, maintains the forecast in the Company's planning software, and delivers the analysis and reporting personally. The Sr. Manager reports to the Chief Supply Chain Officer and partners closely with Sales, Marketing, and Finance departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the Company's SKU-level demand forecast in a dynamic, omnichannel environment, building statistical baselines and layering in customer and promotional plans, pricing, distribution changes, new items, discontinuations, and retailer inventory moves.
  • Prepare and present the forecast as the starting point for the monthly Demand Consensus meeting; reconcile Sales, Marketing, and Finance inputs; and document the assumptions behind the agreed plan.
  • Serve as the Company superuser of its demand planning software (currently New Horizon), including forecast model configuration and tuning, demand segmentation, planning workflows, and data integrations.
  • Measure and report forecast accuracy and bias (e.g., MAPE, WMAPE) by SKU, customer, and channel; lead root-cause analysis of forecast misses and drive corrective action.
  • Support cross-functional teams with the Company's annual budget and reforecast processes by reconciling the demand plan to the financial forecast in units and dollars.
  • Deliver recurring demand reporting and ad-hoc analysis, including forecast performance, demand trends, promotion lift, and new item performance, and present findings and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Apply AI tools and automation to shorten the forecast cycle and reduce manual work.
  • Document demand planning processes and train stakeholders to adopt planning tools and the Demand Consensus process; continuously improve forecasting methods as tools and industry practices evolve.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, and Finance teams and internal stakeholders.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Expertise in statistical and machine learning forecasting, accuracy measurement, and demand segmentation, with hands-on experience in an advanced demand planning platform.
  • Advanced Excel, including forecasting models and large data sets; ERP experience, with SAP Business One, SQL, or Power BI a plus.
  • Learns new software quickly; demonstrated fluency with AI tools in an analytics context, including LLM-based analysis and the automation of recurring reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with the ability to turn complex data into a clear, actionable recommendation for executive audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate discussion and build consensus across Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain without direct authority, and to challenge assumptions with data.
  • Self-directed and hands-on. This role has no direct reports or analyst support; it requires someone who knows what to do, knows how to do it, and does the work personally.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing requests from multiple stakeholders within a fixed monthly planning calendar.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Love for animals and be passionate about their health.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in demand planning, forecasting, or S&OP, including 2+ years owning the forecast for a multi-channel business.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting the forecast within a demand consensus or S&OP process.
  • Experience in the CPG industry is required. Pet, natural, or food and beverage experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience forecasting national retail and distributor customers across pet specialty, mass, grocery, natural, and e-commerce channels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This role is performed in an office or remote environment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% or more of the time.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copier, and printer.
  • Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Must be able to observe details at close range.
  • Occasionally move items that weigh up to 20 pounds.

The salary range for this role is: $120,000 - $150,000/year
