Build the FP&A Function. Shape Financial Strategy. Influence What Comes Next.
NANO Nuclear Energy is seeking an experienced, hands-on FP&A leader to build the Company's financial planning and analysis function from the ground up. This is an opportunity to establish the forecasting models, planning processes, reporting infrastructure, and analytical capabilities that will support the Company's next stage of growth and its progression toward commercialization.
This role offers more than ownership of an established budgeting and forecasting cycle. You'll have the opportunity to design how FP&A operates, work directly with leaders across business units and subsidiaries, and translate complex financial and operational data into insights that inform senior management's decisions.
We're looking for a finance professional who combines strong technical modeling skills with an entrepreneurial mindset—someone who enjoys building the infrastructure, challenging assumptions, and doing the detailed analytical work needed to turn business plans into actionable financial forecasts.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Build a function from the ground up. Establish the FP&A processes, financial models, reporting frameworks, and planning infrastructure rather than simply inheriting an existing structure.
- Work directly with senior leadership and business-unit leaders. Partner across the organization to understand operating plans, challenge assumptions, evaluate spending priorities, and inform financial decisions.
- Connect financial planning to complex, long-term investments. Develop forecasts covering R&D programs, licensing and regulatory activities, project development, headcount, capital expenditures, and other strategic investments.
- Help prepare the business for commercialization. Build business-unit and revenue models that incorporate commercial, operational, and project-level assumptions as the Company advances toward commercialization.
- Shape the future of financial reporting and technology. Help evaluate and implement financial planning systems, business intelligence tools, AI-enabled solutions, and automation that improve the quality and efficiency of financial analysis.
- Combine strategic influence with hands-on execution. Own the broader planning process while personally building the models, forecasts, and analytical tools that support decision-making.
What You'll Do
Build and Lead the FP&A Function
- Establish and scale the Company's FP&A capabilities, including planning processes, financial models, reporting frameworks, and consolidated forecasting infrastructure.
- Own annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
- Develop and maintain detailed financial models that connect operating assumptions to financial performance, cash flow, and investment requirements.
- Build scalable, standardized processes for consolidating actual results, budgets, and forecasts across business units, subsidiaries, and financial systems.
Drive Financial Planning Across the Business
- Develop detailed forecasts covering headcount and compensation, R&D programs, licensing and regulatory activities, project development, corporate expenses, capital expenditures, and strategic investments.
- Partner with leaders across business units, subsidiaries, and functional teams to understand operating plans, assess spending requirements, and develop and challenge financial assumptions.
- Integrate business-level inputs into the Company's consolidated financial forecast.
- Work closely with Accounting and finance teams to align financial data, account mappings, reporting structures, and processes that support consistent forecasting and management reporting.
- As the Company progresses toward commercialization, develop and maintain business-unit and revenue models incorporating key commercial, operational, and project-level drivers.
Deliver Insights That Inform Decisions
- Establish regular budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual reporting, investigate variances, and identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop financial KPIs, dashboards, and management reports that provide visibility into company performance, spending, liquidity, and progress against financial and operational objectives.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate alternative operating plans, investment decisions, development timelines, and strategic initiatives.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, strategic finance, or related financial roles, with substantial responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Demonstrated ownership of FP&A activities, ideally including experience building, improving, or scaling financial planning processes, models, and reporting capabilities.
- Advanced Excel proficiency and strong hands-on financial modeling skills, with the ability and willingness to personally develop detailed forecasts, models, and analytical tools.
- Experience owning or playing a significant role in annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Experience developing consolidated forecasts and management reporting across multiple business units, legal entities, and/or financial systems, including standardizing and integrating financial data from different sources.
- Strong understanding of the three financial statements and how operating assumptions affect cash flow and overall financial performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- FP&A experience in energy, power, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, or another capital-intensive industry.
- Experience building or scaling a financial planning function in a growing or evolving organization.
- Experience evaluating financial planning systems, business intelligence tools, AI-enabled solutions, or automation opportunities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base salary: $170,000–$190,000
- Hybrid work arrangement in New York, NY
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- 401(k) with up to 5% company match.
- Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and paid parental leave.
- Mentorship and professional development opportunities.
