Show job description

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

The Sustainability Manager or Senior Manager, Energy & Carbon Markets will manage and execute IREN's energy and carbon programs. The role owns the procurement and management of IREN's multi-gigawatt portfolio of environmental instruments, including renewable energy certificates, carbon offsets, and other clean energy products, and evaluates new Scope 1 and Scope 2 opportunities such as clean firm power and emerging energy technologies. The role manages external vendors and counterparties and builds business cases for new opportunities as IREN's footprint grows.

  • 6-10 years of combined experience across energy markets, environmental commodities, clean energy procurement, or sustainability program management. Level of appointment will reflect depth of experience.
  • Direct experience procuring or transacting environmental instruments such as renewable energy certificates, carbon offsets, or other clean energy attributes at portfolio scale. Experience in data centers, energy, or infrastructure is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent programs with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of the GHG Protocol and market-based accounting for purchased electricity, and how instrument purchases flow through to reported Scope 2 emissions.
  • Working knowledge of wholesale power markets (for example ERCOT, SPP, or WECC) and the commercial structures of power purchase agreements.
  • Familiarity with emerging clean energy technologies, such as long-duration storage and next-generation geothermal, sufficient to evaluate new products and make credible recommendations.
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills, including building business cases and evaluating vendors, technologies, and market opportunities.
  • Experience identifying and delivering value chain (Scope 3) emissions reductions, including working with procurement and engineering teams on lower-carbon materials, supplier engagement programs, or embodied carbon in construction is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required. MBA a plus.
  • Executing IREN's annual renewable energy procurement and carbon offset purchasing, including counterparty evaluation, transaction support, and retirement documentation and evidence packs that meet assurance requirements, prepared with the sustainability data team.
  • Owning IREN's environmental instruments portfolio across markets, including position tracking, budget forecasting, and regular portfolio reporting for leadership.
  • Identifying and evaluating clean energy products and purchase opportunities, including power purchase agreement options, and preparing business cases for leadership review. Execution of power purchase agreements is shared with IREN's energy and development teams.
  • Evaluating new Scope 1 and Scope 2 opportunities, including clean firm energy and emerging technologies, and preparing investable options for leadership review.
  • Managing vendor and counterparty relationships across energy and carbon programs, including certificate and offset suppliers and technology providers.
  • Monitoring environmental commodity markets and maintaining internal reporting on prices, volumes, and portfolio position.
  • Building procurement and program playbooks so that annual cycles repeat cleanly and scale with new sites.
  • Coordinating with site Operations teams so that programs reflect the operating requirements of large-scale data center campuses.
  • Leading Scope 3 reduction initiatives with Procurement and Engineering teams, starting with practical near-term opportunities in construction materials and supplier engagement.
  • Building the supplier data program that supports IREN's Scope 3 inventory, with reporting methodology owned by the Disclosure & Reporting lead.
