Show job description

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.

With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.

The Sustainability Manager or Senior Manager, Environment will own IREN's site-facing environmental programs across water, waste, and nature & biodiversity. This includes executing IREN's water strategy and site-level water investments, running site waste and recycling programs including IT asset disposition, and managing biodiversity and land screening for development sites. The role works closely with site Operations, Development, and community teams, and scales with each new campus across North America, Australia and Spain.

  • 5-9 years of experience in water stewardship, environmental management, ecology, or site environmental programs. Experience in data centers, utilities, mining, or heavy infrastructure is a plus. Level of appointment will reflect depth of experience.
  • Direct experience with water stewardship programs, watershed or catchment assessment, or context-based water target setting (for example, the Alliance for Water Stewardship standard).
  • Experience managing environmental vendors and site programs with operations teams, including waste, recycling, or IT asset disposition.
  • Familiarity with biodiversity and land screening approaches for development or construction projects. Awareness of emerging nature-related disclosure frameworks (for example, TNFD) is a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent programs with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree required. A degree in environmental science, ecology, or engineering is a plus.
  • Executing IREN's water strategy at site level, including delivery of approved water investments and partnerships and a regular review of new water opportunities near IREN's sites.
  • Maintaining site water stress baselines and supporting context-based water positions for reporting and community engagement.
  • Running site waste and recycling programs, including vendor audits, recycling rollout, and construction waste standards developed with Development teams.
  • Managing the IT asset disposition program with IT and Security teams, including quarterly chain-of-custody reviews.
  • Running biodiversity and land screens for development sites and maintaining siting-constraint inputs for water, land, and community.
  • Managing IREN's office footprint program, including office waste baselines and engagement-led reduction actions.
  • Coordinating with site Operations teams so that programs reflect the operating requirements of large-scale data center campuses.
  • Providing program data to the sustainability data team for reporting, with reporting methodology owned by the Disclosure & Reporting lead.
