DESCRIPTION
The Senior Manager for Automotive Automation Solutions & Simulation will lead a multidisciplinary technical team responsible for identifying, developing, and proposing industrial automation solutions for automotive manufacturing operations.
This role combines deep automotive manufacturing knowledge, industrial automation and robotics expertise, and simulation capabilities to help customers identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and manufacturing costs.
The primary responsibility is to lead the complete front-end solution development process – from understanding current manufacturing operations and identifying automation opportunities to developing technically feasible concepts, validating expected performance through simulation, and preparing comprehensive technical and commercial proposals.
A critical element of the position is the ability to translate engineering solutions into compelling customer business cases, providing the technical and financial justification necessary to support capital investment decisions, including Return on Invested Capital (ROIC).
The Senior Manager will work closely with automotive customers to develop practical, innovative, and financially attractive automation solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Automotive Manufacturing Assessment & Opportunity Identification
  • Lead customer engagements and plant assessments with automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to understand manufacturing operations, challenges, production requirements, and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze manufacturing performance, including cycle time, throughput, OEE, labor utilization, quality, and equipment efficiency, to identify and prioritize automation opportunities based on technical feasibility, operational impact, and financial return.
  • Build strong relationships with customer manufacturing, engineering, and operations leadership to align proposed solutions with operational needs and investment priorities.
Automation Concept Development & Engineering
  • Lead the development of technically feasible automation concepts incorporating industrial robotics, assembly systems, material handling, machine vision, and other advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Direct engineering resources in developing equipment concepts, 2D layouts, and 3D models, evaluating alternative solutions based on performance, flexibility, investment requirements, safety, and integration with existing operations.
Manufacturing Simulation & Concept Validation
  • Lead simulation activities, defining technical requirements, coordinating data collection, and overseeing the development of models to evaluate manufacturing processes, robotic operations, cycle times, throughput, equipment utilization, material flow, and production capacity.
  • Ensure simulation results validate proposed concepts, identify operational risks and optimization opportunities, and provide credible performance projections to support customer decision-making.
Business Case Development & Investment Justification
  • Develop compelling business cases by translating proposed automation improvements into measurable financial and operational benefits, including productivity, labor efficiency, manufacturing costs, quality, capacity, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Evaluate capital investment requirements and financial returns, including ROIC, ROI, and payback period, validating assumptions with customers and comparing alternative solutions to support investment decisions.
Technical & Commercial Proposal Development
  • Lead the development of comprehensive technical and commercial proposals.
  • Ensure solutions are technically feasible, commercially competitive, and aligned with company profitability objectives.
  • Present technical concepts, simulation results, and financial justifications to customers, supporting technical reviews, capital approval processes, commercial negotiations, and conversion of opportunities into awarded projects.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team specializing in automation engineering, CAD modeling, simulation, and applications engineering, establishing clear responsibilities, priorities, performance expectations, and accountability for deliverables.
  • Drive standardization, technical innovation, and continuous improvement in opportunity assessment, concept development, simulation, and proposal preparation, ensuring effective collaboration with Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Project Management, including technical handoff of awarded projects.
Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of automotive OEM and Tier 1 manufacturing environments, production processes, plant operations, and performance metrics, including cycle time, OEE, throughput, labor productivity, and quality.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial robotics, automated assembly systems, material handling, and manufacturing system integration, with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and develop technically feasible automation solutions.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing simulation, digital twin technologies, and 2D/3D CAD applications, with the ability to lead technical teams in developing and validating automation concepts. Familiarity with tools such as Siemens Tecnomatix, Visual Components, DELMIA, SolidWorks, or equivalent platforms.
  • Proven ability to develop automation investment justifications, including capital cost estimates, productivity improvements, ROIC, ROI, and payback analysis, as well as comprehensive technical and commercial proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, managing complex technical initiatives, and coordinating cross-functional resources to deliver high-quality solutions within established timelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to engage automotive manufacturing leadership, present technical and financial recommendations, and influence customer investment decisions.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience combining automotive manufacturing operations, industrial automation, and robotics.
