About Tarte
Tarte is a leading innovator in the cosmetics industry, known for high-performance, cruelty-free beauty products and a loyal global customer base. Getting product to that customer, on time and at the right cost, across retail, e-commerce, and international markets, depends on a transportation network that runs reliably every day. We are seeking a Sr. Manager, Global Transportation to manage that network: leading day-to-day execution, managing carrier and provider performance, tracking and analyzing transportation spend, and improving the processes that keep Tarte product moving around the world.
Position Overview
The Sr. Manager, Global Transportation will manage Tarte’s global transportation operations, ensuring product moves efficiently, on time, and within budget across modes, regions, and carriers. This is a hands-on role that combines operational management with analytical and financial responsibility. The successful candidate will manage carriers and providers, track and report on spend, improve processes, and lead a small team, while supporting the broader transportation strategy set with the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
- Manage day-to-day global transportation execution across modes, regions, and lanes, including planning, booking, tracking, and delivery.
- Resolve service issues, delays, and exceptions quickly, and manage claims through resolution.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost, service, and capacity, and recommend network changes to leadership.
Spend Management & Reporting
- Support the annual transportation budget and own monthly forecasting, variance analysis, and spend reporting.
- Track spend by carrier, mode, lane, and region; identify cost drivers, trends, and savings opportunities.
- Oversee freight audit and payment processes and partner with Finance on accruals and reporting accuracy.
Data & Performance Analytics
- Build and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and scorecards covering carrier performance, service levels, and spend.
- Turn data into clear recommendations for cost reduction, carrier decisions, and service improvements.
Process Improvement
- Develop, document, and maintain SOPs and workflows for transportation planning, execution, claims, and exception management.
- Identify process gaps and manual work, and implement practical, scalable improvements.
Carrier & Provider Management
- Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, and 3PLs, including scorecards, regular business reviews, and corrective-action plans.
- Support sourcing, RFPs, rate negotiations, and carrier onboarding.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Lead, coach, and develop transportation team members, setting clear goals and expectations.
- Partner with Warehouse Operations, Logistics, Trade Compliance, Finance, Procurement, IT, and Customer Service to support end-to-end product movement and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate performance, results, and risks to the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Finance, Operations, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain, including experience managing global or international shipments.
- Experience managing carriers, freight forwarders, 3PLs, or other transportation providers.
- Working knowledge of transportation budgets, forecasting, variance analysis, and freight audit/payment.
- Strong analytical skills; advanced Excel and experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Use AI and automation tools to automate manual and daily tasks, such as reporting, spend analysis, and exception management, and to surface cost and service insights faster.
- Experience with TMS, ERP, or other transportation technology.
- Experience leading or mentoring team members; strong communication and stakeholder skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in consumer goods, beauty, or retail, and in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Experience developing SOPs, KPIs, and reporting, or leading process-improvement projects.
- Lean/Six Sigma, APICS/ASCM, or related certification.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12 months, the successful candidate will:
- Run reliable day-to-day global transportation operations with strong on-time and service performance.
- Deliver accurate monthly forecasting and spend reporting with clear visibility into cost drivers.
- Implement carrier scorecards, KPIs, and dashboards, and hold providers accountable to them.
- Document and improve core processes and deliver measurable cost or service improvements.
- Build a capable, engaged team with clear roles and accountability.
Ideal Candidate
An experienced, hands-on transportation professional who is as comfortable in the data as on a call with a carrier. They are analytical, organized, and operationally strong, take ownership of results, and enjoy improving how things work while developing the people around them.
