About geekspeak Commerce
geekspeak Commerce helps businesses get found, connect with customers and grow sales.
Founded in 2003, we're a Canadian e-commerce agency with a team of specialists across product data, content, photography, syndication and media. We support brands, retailers and distributors across Canada and the US.
Our growing media practice brings together paid search, paid social, programmatic advertising and retail media. Our capabilities include Amazon Ads and Amazon DSP, alongside platforms such as Google, Meta, Walmart Connect and Instacart Ads. We help advertisers reach audiences across search, display, streaming TV, online video, audio and retail environments.
We're looking for an experienced media professional who can win new business and provide practical guidance to our current media team, working closely with executive leadership.
The opportunity
Your primary focus will be developing new business and growing client relationships. Alongside that, you'll provide day-to-day guidance to our media specialists, helping them develop recommendations, manage priorities and communicate effectively with clients.
You'll work closely with our founder and executive team, who retain responsibility for business direction, pricing approvals, hiring and the broader media practice. They'll support major opportunities and key client decisions, while you manage your sales pipeline and help the team deliver well.
This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable leading a pitch, reviewing a media plan, coaching a specialist and discussing performance with a client.
What success looks like
- Profitable new business and growth in agency fee revenue.
- Strong client relationships, retention and account expansion.
- A well-supported media team with clear day-to-day priorities.
- Consistent campaign delivery and useful client reporting.
- Clear sales forecasts, well-scoped engagements and effective delivery handoffs.
What you will do
Win and grow business
- Build a pipeline of advertisers and agency partners across industries, drawing on existing relationships, targeted outreach and networking.
- Lead discovery conversations with marketing leaders, media buyers and business decision-makers.
- Sell media strategy, audits, paid pilots, campaign activation and ongoing management.
- Develop proposals with clear objectives, scope, pricing and measurement.
- Lead presentations and negotiations through signed agreements, working within agreed pricing and approval guidelines.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts through additional channels, services and investment.
- Develop agency partnerships for specialist execution and complementary services.
Guide the media team
- Coordinate day-to-day priorities with the team and flag workload or resource needs to leadership.
- Coach specialists in planning, campaign management, analysis and client communication.
- Review media strategies, budgets and performance recommendations.
- Help the team apply consistent standards for campaign setup, optimization, reporting and quality assurance.
- Join key client conversations and help resolve delivery or performance challenges.
- Identify training needs and share resource recommendations with executive leadership.
Support practice development
- Provide client and prospect feedback to help leadership refine services, proposals and sales materials.
- Scope opportunities with delivery specialists so commitments match the team's capacity and expertise.
- Help improve sales handoffs, campaign workflows and account communication.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales forecasts and visibility into account growth opportunities.
- Help turn successful engagements into case studies and repeatable offerings.
Qualifications
- Proven experience winning new media or advertising business, including prospecting, managing a sales pipeline, developing proposals and closing agreements.
- Established relationships with advertisers, marketing decision-makers or agency partners.
- Practical media planning or buying experience, with strong knowledge of programmatic advertising, paid search and paid social. Experience with Amazon DSP and retail media is an asset.
- Ability to interpret campaign performance, guide optimization and connect media recommendations to client objectives such as awareness, customer acquisition, lead generation and sales.
- Experience coaching media specialists, coordinating day-to-day priorities and collaborating across sales, delivery and account teams.
- Strong presentation, writing and negotiation skills, with confidence leading discovery conversations, pitches and client performance reviews.
- Commercial judgment, including an understanding of campaign budgets, agency fees, scope and account profitability.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a sales pipeline alongside team and client responsibilities.
- Understanding of e-commerce and digital customer journeys; experience connecting advertising with product content, landing pages and conversion is an asset.
- A degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
