Show job description

The Senior Manager - Controls & Compliance leads the independent E2E view of performance, quality, risk, and compliance across the Cash Office operating model. This role does not replace the execution teams that apply daily operational controls. It consolidates insights, identifies trends and emerging risks, aligns corrective and preventive action plans with accountable business areas, and partners with Store Operations, Asset Protection, Controllership, and R2R Leadership to provide decision-ready visibility, strengthen accountability, and drive timely remediation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the Cash Office Financial Controls Tower covering KPI and SLA performance, quality, rework, risks, controls, overages and shortages, and applicable tax requirements.
  • Create an E2E view across Sales Reconciliation, Store Set Up, Journal Entry Close, and downstream exception handling to identify systemic risk and quality patterns.
  • Define governance routines, risk thresholds, escalation criteria, and standardized reporting for Walmart and Back Office service performance.
  • Analyze recurring findings, control failures, late-close drivers, backlog, rework, and financial exceptions; translate trends into actionable business insights.
  • Align corrective and preventive action plans with Store Operations, Retail Accounting, Controllership, Cash & Treasury, Electronic Payments, Financial Services, Product, Tech, and Back Office.
  • Partner closely with Store Operations and Asset Protection teams across LATAM markets, together with the Corporate Cash Office Controls team, to align risk priorities, control expectations, market-level action plans, and consistent remediation across the region.
  • Monitor action-plan execution, challenge overdue remediation, and verify that agreed actions address the identified risk or quality gap.
  • Provide timely communication to Controllership, Asset Protection, Store Operations, R2R Management, and relevant Home Office stakeholders on material risks and remediation status.
  • Connect recurring defects and control opportunities to the Transformation backlog for sustainable process, system, or automation solutions.
  • Support audit and compliance readiness through consistent evidence, issue traceability, governance, and follow-up.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, Risk Management, Business, or related field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in Financial Controls, Record to Report, Internal Audit, Compliance, Risk, Shared Services, or Finance Operations.
  • Experience leading control governance, risk assessments, executive reporting, and cross-functional remediation.
  • Advanced English proficiency and strong executive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SOX, Retail Accounting, SAP or SAP CAR, high-volume transaction environments, or managed-service governance.
  • Professional certifications in Internal Controls, Risk Management, Compliance, Audit, Accounting, or Continuous Improvement, such as CIA, CRMA, CPA, CMA, Lean Six Sigma, or local equivalent, are considered a plus but are not required. Demonstrated experience leading Controls, Compliance, Risk Management, Controllership, and Finance Operations in complex business environments will be prioritized.
  • Professional certifications are valued as evidence of technical knowledge and continued professional development; however, they are not mandatory requirements. Relevant experience, leadership capability, business judgment, and demonstrated results in complex finance environments will remain the primary selection criteria.

Strategic Leadership Expectations

  • Provide independent and objective visibility of operational performance, financial controls, quality, and risk exposure.
  • Demonstrate strong Controllership, Compliance, and Financial Controls discipline.
  • Connect performance and risk information across Stores, Middle Office, Back Office, and downstream reconciliation teams.
  • Apply independent judgment and constructive challenge when evaluating risks, control gaps, and remediation plans.
  • Influence Business Owners, Store Operations, Product, Tech, Controllership, and service-delivery teams without relying on direct reporting lines.
  • Translate operational data and trends into clear materiality assessments, business implications, and executive-level messages.
  • Establish governance that drives ownership, decision follow-through, and timely remediation.
  • Build organizational capability, talent, succession plans, and clear accountability within the Controls organization.
