We are seeking a Senior Manager to join the R&D Asset Transition & Integration Office (RATIO), the function responsible for executing R&D asset transitions across integrations, in-licensing, asset wind-downs, divestments, and externalizations. In this role you will support and lead selective transitions and manage delivery across the R&D functions to a clean, compliant asset close.


You will operate at the intersection of science, operations, and strategy—bringing structure to complex transitions while maintaining the highest standards of quality and data integrity.

How you will contribute:


As a transition lead within RATIO, you will:

  • Support or selectively lead R&D asset transitions (particularly wind-downs or terminations), defining scope, sequencing, critical path, resourcing, and target end state
  • Translate contractual obligations—license agreements, transition plans, and post-term commitments—into executable operational workplans with named owners and dates
  • Coordinate delivery across Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Management, Biostatistics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nonclinical, Quality, Procurement, Legal, Finance, and Data & Technology
  • Work with R&D functions to manage study closeout, sample and material disposition, regulatory withdrawal, trial transparency obligations, and financial reconciliation
  • Support governance cadence for assigned transitions; escalate with clear recommendations and present to senior leadership forums
  • Execute critical transition activities, such as data and records transfer, regulatory filing transitions, safety and pharmacovigilance handovers, system migrations and decommissioning, and contract and vendor transitions
  • Track and report ongoing post-term commitments, ensuring obligations to partners and health authorities are met
  • Contribute to RATIO frameworks, playbooks and tools, incorporating lessons learned so that each transition is more efficient than the last

This role is part of an innovative capability that is leading across the pharma and CRO industry. Accordingly, you’ll be close to some of the most complex and high-impact work in R&D. You will:

  • Own transitions that directly shape Takeda's R&D portfolio, with visibility to senior leadership
  • Work across the full breadth of R&D functions rather than within a single discipline
  • Bring clarity and structure to ambiguity, often where no established precedent exists
  • Represent Takeda operationally to external partners and counterparties

Success in this role requires someone who has a learning mindset, balances operational rigor with judgement, and drives alignment across a highly matrixed, global environment.

What You Bring:

  • Working knowledge of R&D processes, such as clinical development, regulatory, safety, and quality systems
  • Experience in program management through complex or multi-functional initiatives
  • Understanding of data and records management, such as regulatory data transfer, system transitions, and archival strategies
  • Familiarity with global R&D systems and infrastructure, and how they interact during transitions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to drive a collaborative environment
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive progress, even in highly complex environments

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:


  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related field required; advanced degree welcomed
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, particularly in R&D strategy and operations and/or program management
  • Demonstrated delivery in global matrixed environments
  • Experience working with external counterparties—partners, licensors, CROs, or vendors
  • Fluent English at a level suitable for global governance forums

Preferred:

  • Experience in any of the following: R&D alliance management, Business Development (e.g., M&A integration, divestment, in-licensing), R&D technology or sponsor transfer, asset termination, or Life Sciences Strategy or Management Consulting
  • Contract literacy
  • Budget forecasting, tracking and closeout for program spend
  • Experience working across cultures and time zones
