Senior Mechanical Engineer - Medical Devices (Belgium)
Location: Belgium (Hybrid - 3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
We are supporting an innovative medical device organisation that is entering an exciting phase of growth as it transitions products from innovation through to industrialisation. As part of this growth, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of a safety-critical medical device platform.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning complex mechanical components from concept through design, verification, validation and industrialisation within a regulated product development environment.
The Role
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, development and industrialisation of mechanical components and assemblies for a medical device product. You will take ownership of technical solutions, collaborate closely with manufacturing and quality teams, and support the delivery of robust, innovative designs that meet performance, reliability and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Own mechanical components and assemblies throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept through industrialisation.
- Generate concepts, detailed designs and engineering solutions for safety-critical products.
- Conduct risk management and robust engineering activities including DFMEA and related design tools.
- Plan and execute verification and validation activities.
- Support design reviews, root cause investigations and technical problem-solving activities.
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory and external suppliers during product development and industrialisation.
- Contribute to Design Control activities and engineering documentation within a regulated environment.
- Support prototype development, testing and continuous product improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience developing regulated products, ideally within Medical Devices, Drug Delivery, Healthcare, Diagnostics or other highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrable hands-on mechanical design experience and ownership of components through the complete development lifecycle.
- Experience taking products from concept through testing, verification and industrialisation.
- Strong understanding of risk management methodologies such as DFMEA.
- Experience working within structured product development and Design Control environments.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, component development and industrialisation.
- CAD experience (Creo experience highly desirable).
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
- Medical devices (Class II or Class III preferred).
- Drug-device combination products.
- Inhalation, respiratory or drug delivery devices.
- ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls or similar regulated development frameworks.
- Experience within smaller or mid-sized engineering organisations where broad product ownership has been required.
Why Apply?
- Opportunity to own meaningful, patient-impacting technology.
- Significant influence over product development decisions.
- Collaborative engineering culture with strong technical leadership.
- Excellent long-term career development opportunities.
- Flexible hybrid working arrangement.
If you're a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys solving difficult engineering challenges and wants to take ownership of a product from concept through industrialisation, we'd be keen to speak with you.
