NI (Part of Emerson) | Test & Measurement (T&M) Business Unit
NI is now part of Emerson’s Test & Measurement (T&M) Business Unit, combining NI’s industry‑leading platforms with Emerson’s global scale and operational excellence. Together, we empower engineers to solve complex, real-world measurement challenges.
At NI, we believe great engineering happens when talented people collaborate, challenge assumptions, and take ownership of meaningful work.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team. In this role, you will help ensure our hardware product designs meet technical specifications and customer needs and are manufacturable. You will have the opportunity to work with both local and global teams to design a variety of test and measurement products.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Design & Engineering
- Lead the design and development of electronics packaging from concept to production.
- Define the mechanical architecture and select materials, components, and hardware to meet product requirements.
- Perform tolerance, thermal, and structural analyses to identify risks and ensure product reliability.
- Plan and conduct mechanical testing, analyze results, and improve the design.
Manufacturing & Supplier Support
- Develop specifications for mechanical materials and manufacturing processes.
- Qualify and support suppliers to meet manufacturing and quality requirements.
- Support manufacturing to resolve issues, improve yield, and maintain product quality.
- Work with procurement and suppliers to ensure quality and on-time delivery of mechanical parts.
Technical Leadership & Capability Building
- Provide technical guidance, mentor engineers, and improve mechanical design practices.
Who You Are:
You build trust by delivering on commitments and taking ownership of outcomes, even when challenges are complex or ambiguous. You approach problems with curiosity and a structured, data‑driven mindset, seeking to understand root causes rather than quick fixes. You collaborate openly across functions, valuing diverse perspectives and working constructively toward shared goals. You adapt quickly in a dynamic environment and continuously look for better ways to improve products, processes, and customer impact.
For This Role, You Will Need:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and product development, preferably with electronics hardware or industrial products.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, tolerance stack-up, materials, and common manufacturing processes.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to collaborate well in a group environment and solve problems effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, in a global engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
- Experience using CAD and CAE tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
- Hands‑on experience in thermal testing, designing metal and plastic components, and working with related manufacturing methods.
- Exposure to high‑mix, low‑volume product development or sustaining engineering roles.
- Experience in thermal analysis and structural simulation.
- Experience supporting supplier qualification, material changes, or production support activities.
Our Culture and Commitment to You:
At Emerson, we prioritize a workplace where every employee is valued, respected, and empowered to grow. We foster an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and diverse perspectives—because we know that great ideas come from great teams.
