Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world.

Wood is seeking expressions of interest for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Malaysia team as we partner with a major player in the Oil & Gas industry on the FEED phase of one of the Middle East's most significant offshore redevelopment and asset life extension projects, encompassing both greenfield developments and brownfield modifications. This opportunity is available to Malaysian citizens and permanent residents on a 12-month fixed-term contract commencing in December 2026.

Designing the future. Transforming the World.

Wood has a deep history of pioneering technical expertise globally for more than 160 years, from the North Sea to the offshore fields of the Malay Basin, Sabah and Sarawak, and the world-class energy hubs of Kerteh and Pengerang, and is now embarking on an exciting new chapter. Building on decades of engineering excellence from Malaysia, Wood invites you to help shape the future of the energy industry across Asia Pacific and beyond.

Join us in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, one of Southeast Asia's leading business and energy centres, where global connectivity, cultural diversity and engineering excellence come together. Supporting industry-leading clients across the oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, chemicals and energy sectors, you will contribute to some of the world's most significant projects while enjoying the benefits of a modern, vibrant, and highly liveable city.

At Wood Malaysia, you will thrive in a collegiate and collaborative team culture, partnering with like-minded professionals to solve complex challenges, deliver technical excellence and create new possibilities for our clients and communities.

What we can offer

  • Meaningful and complex projects delivered to leaders of industry across traditional, renewable, and emerging energy sectors
  • Competitive salary with regular reviews to ensure we are rewarding at the right level in line with the market
  • Global connections: join experts around the world who are at the leading edge of our industry, shaping the standards of our profession
  • Flexible working arrangements balancing client, team, and individual needs
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, with development plans tailored to your individual needs and aspirations
  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion; across our business with employee networks committed to giving all employees a voice
  • Commitment to your wellbeing through access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

Reporting to the Discipline Manager, you will join a dedicated project team and play a key role in delivering high-quality mechanical engineering solutions. You will thrive on the challenge of balancing technical excellence, client expectations and project delivery by:

  • Working across mature offshore oil and gas production facilities, with a focus on green & brownfield engineering, asset integrity, redevelopment, and life extension
  • Delivering mechanical engineering activities and providing technical guidance on assigned projects and work scopes
  • Participating in design reviews, HAZOPs, HazIDs and LOPA studies as a mechanical engineering representative

Your focus on technical quality, collaboration and delivery will be essential. Anticipating client needs beyond the immediate scope, you will contribute to technical excellence and assurance for the mechanical engineering portion of the project, while working closely with engineers across disciplines to deliver safe, practical and effective solutions. You will also collaborate with clients and project stakeholders to support robust technical decisions that add value to the client and asset portfolio.

You will bring to life Wood's three pillar strategy of Inspired Culture, Delivery Excellence and Profitable Growth on the project. Leading through technical expertise and professional example, you will consistently demonstrate Wood values and behaviours and a commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour, helping to ensure safe, reliable operations and client satisfaction.

At Wood you will join an inclusive and diverse global community of inquisitive minds and recognised industry innovators, partnering to create new possibilities.

You must hold (or be eligible to obtain) legal working rights in Malaysia as either a Malaysian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Suitably qualified in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution, ideally you will have proven experience working in a similar Senior Mechanical Engineer role, with relevant design engineering experience within Oil & Gas production and/or processing industries.

In addition, you will:

  • Be highly competent in mechanical engineering and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and techniques, with experience delivering engineering solutions within a challenging and complex multidisciplinary environment.
  • Have experience mentoring and supporting engineers and designers, contributing to a collaborative team environment and promoting safe and effective engineering practices.
  • Have a professional level of knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and legislation with the ability to apply relevant technical practices, codes and standards.
  • Be commercially aware with a solutions-focused mindset, capable of identifying and managing engineering risk during the design process while balancing safety, technical and commercial requirements.
  • Be an articulate communicator (both written and verbal) including well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Have excellent knowledge of MS Office applications, spreadsheets and commercial engineering software.
  • Have a passion for energy security and energy transition, with the capability to support clients in achieving more efficient, sustainable and optimised outcomes.
  • Be customer focused with the ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders while contributing to operational excellence and the success of #teamwood.

What will set you apart will be your previous design engineering experience on major offshore green & brownfield Oil & Gas projects. Exposure to projects in the Middle East is advantageous but not essential.

It takes a diverse and inclusive community of inquisitive minds to unlock tomorrow's solutions to the world's most critical challenges.

If you are a Mechanical Engineering professional looking to contribute to a major green & brownfield redevelopment and asset life extension project in the Middle East while working from Malaysia, apply today!
