Senior Motor Controller Electrical Engineer
Allocor TechThe role
Most motor-controller jobs are consumer ESCs or eighteen-month aerospace programs that never ship. This is neither.
You will own Taurus-class inverters — four-quadrant FOC/SVPWM drives from ~20 V to 405 V and up to 32 kW — that already fly on eVTOL, hybrid cargo aircraft, and electric hydrofoils. Designed, assembled, and tested in Virginia. Lead times in weeks. Your schematic leaves the building.
What you will do
- Own schematic-to-bring-up: SiC/Si MOSFET inverters, gate drive, isolated sensing, DC link, protection, thermal path.
- Design for 80–400+ V, tens of kW peak, four-quadrant regen, IP67 packaging, and aerospace vibration/thermal environments.
- Get the analog front end right — current sense, offset, bandwidth, isolation, ADC integrity — because FOC depends on it.
- Drive layout review, proto, EMI/thermal debug, and production test.
- Help stand up the next voltage and power class, including 800 V-class work already in motion.
What you bring
- 5+ years on motor drives or HV power stages — not point-of-load bucks.
- BLDC/PMSM inverter topologies, gate drivers, current sensing, snubbers, creepage/clearance, magnetics.
- Schematic and layout judgment on mixed-signal, high-dv/dt boards (Altium or equivalent).
- Lab fluency: scopes, current probes, power analyzers, thermal cameras, dyno or equivalent.
- Bonus: SiC, DO-160, CAN, isolated comms, hybrid-electric or eVTOL programs.
Why Allocortech
Just over 50 people. Revenue has tripled. Founders from Kitty Hawk/Cora, Google, Rockwell Collins, and Lockheed. Small enough that your board flies. Serious enough that the architecture holds up in the air and on the water. American-made. Mountains out the window.
