Is this job info correct?

Role Description As our Senior Network Engineer, you will design and own the network infrastructure that connects building controls, sensors, gateways, data centers, and other operational technology to Motion.cloud. Your mission is to make connectivity boring: reliable, observable, secure, and scalable across everything from a single building to complex campuses and distributed customer portfolios. This is not an HVAC operations role. HVAC controls, building automation systems, meters, sensors, and other field devices are endpoints on the networks you will design and support. You will be responsible for making sure those endpoints can communicate reliably through local networks, fiber, cellular, Starlink, LoRaWAN, wireless backhaul, and other communications infrastructure. You will design network topologies, develop connectivity and redundancy strategies, plan fiber and wireless links between facilities and data centers, troubleshoot difficult RF and WAN issues, and establish the standards we use to deploy and support connected infrastructure at scale. You will work closely with Motion.cloud Engineering, customer IT teams, controls contractors, installers, carriers, and technology partners to ensure that data can reliably move from the field to Motion.cloud. Technical Requirements 1. Network Architecture & Engineering 6-8+ Years of Network Engineering: Proven experience designing, deploying, and supporting production networks across distributed environments. Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VPNs, firewalls, and network segmentation. Topology Design: Ability to design and document networks spanning buildings, campuses, remote facilities, and data centers. Fiber & Physical Infrastructure: Experience planning fiber connectivity, switching infrastructure, uplinks, redundant paths, and physical network topology. Wireless Backhaul: Experience designing or supporting point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless links where wired infrastructure is impractical. Resiliency: Ability to design primary, secondary, and failover connectivity strategies based on the operational requirements of a site. 2. WAN, Cellular & Wireless Infrastructure Cellular Networking: Hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting LTE/5G routers, modems, SIMs, carriers, APNs, antennas, and data plans. Satellite Connectivity: Experience with Starlink or similar satellite WAN technologies, including deployment considerations, failover, and performance monitoring. RF Fundamentals: Strong understanding of signal strength, interference, attenuation, antenna placement, line-of-sight, and the effects of building construction on wireless performance. LoRaWAN: Working knowledge of LoRaWAN architecture, gateways, device joins, RSSI, SNR, packet loss, coverage planning, and troubleshooting. Network Monitoring: Experience using telemetry and network monitoring tools to identify latency, packet loss, outages, degraded links, and other connectivity problems. 3. OT, IoT & Building Systems Connectivity Operational Technology Networking: Experience connecting controls, sensors, meters, gateways, or other operational technology to IP networks. Building Controls Familiarity: Understanding of how building automation and controls systems communicate. Experience with technologies such as BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP is strongly preferred. IoT Infrastructure: Experience supporting networks with large numbers of sensors, gateways, edge devices, or other distributed endpoints. IT / OT Integration: Ability to work effectively across customer IT environments and operational systems while maintaining appropriate segmentation and security boundaries. End-to-End Troubleshooting: Ability to determine whether a communication failure originates at the field device, RF layer, gateway, LAN, WAN, upstream provider, or cloud platform. Key Responsibilities 1. Network Architecture & Connectivity Strategy Network Design: Design network architectures for customer buildings, campuses, data centers, and distributed portfolios. Topology Planning: Develop network topologies incorporating Ethernet, fiber, cellular, Starlink, LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi, and wireless backhaul technologies. Campus & Data Center Connectivity: Plan connectivity between buildings, facilities, and data centers using fiber or wireless backhaul where appropriate. WAN Strategy: Define primary and backup connectivity strategies based on uptime requirements, available carriers, site conditions, and cost. Network Standards: Establish repeatable standards for addressing, segmentation, equipment selection, redundancy, monitoring, and documentation. Design Review: Advise project teams during system design to ensure connectivity solutions are reliable, maintainable, and scalable. 2. Deployment, Operations & Reliability Infrastructure Ownership: Own the operational health of network and communications infrastructure after deployment. Network Monitoring: Monitor connectivity, availability, latency, packet loss, signal quality, gateway health, and other indicators of network performance. Incident Response: Lead diagnosis and resolution of connectivity incidents affecting customer data, controls communications, or Motion.cloud visibility. Cellular & Starlink Management: Manage cellular and satellite connectivity, including modems, routers, carriers, SIMs, APNs, antennas, service plans, and failover configurations. LoRaWAN Operations: Own gateway performance, coverage quality, RF health, device connectivity, and communications reliability. RF Troubleshooting: Diagnose interference, attenuation, coverage gaps, poor antenna placement, line-of-sight limitations, and environmental impacts on wireless networks. Lifecycle Management: Track network equipment health, age, support status, capacity, and replacement requirements. Proactive Reliability: Use network telemetry and performance trends to identify potential failures before they become customer-impacting incidents. 3. OT Connectivity & Motion.cloud Integration Controls Connectivity: Own the communications layer connecting HVAC controls, building automation systems, sensors, meters, gateways, and other operational technology to Motion.cloud. Data Path Validation: Validate end-to-end communication from field devices through gateways, customer networks, WAN infrastructure, and Motion.cloud. Telemetry Reliability: Identify and resolve data gaps, dropouts, latency, abnormal communication patterns, and intermittent connectivity. Commissioning: Validate network performance, RF coverage, redundancy, and telemetry paths during commissioning and project handoff. Engineering Partnership: Work with Motion.cloud Engineering to diagnose issues involving gateways, firmware, integrations, platform connectivity, or communications infrastructure. Customer IT Coordination: Partner with customer IT and security teams on addressing, firewall rules, VPNs, segmentation, routing, and other requirements needed to connect operational systems. Technical Escalation: Serve as the primary escalation point when connectivity issues span multiple systems, vendors, or network layers. 4. Documentation & Infrastructure Planning Network Documentation: Create and maintain network topology diagrams, IP plans, fiber routes, wireless links, gateway locations, WAN configurations, and other as-built documentation. Connectivity Plans: Document cellular, Starlink, LoRaWAN, fiber, and wireless connectivity strategies for customer sites. Asset Management: Maintain accurate records of routers, switches, gateways, antennas, modems, communications hardware, and associated service providers. Capacity & Upgrade Planning: Recommend infrastructure improvements based on reliability, capacity, scalability, lifecycle, and operational risk. Technical Standards: Help define the network architecture and deployment standards Motion.cloud uses across its customer portfolio. Nice-to-Haves Industrial Networking: Experience supporting networks in manufacturing, data centers, critical facilities, energy, utilities, smart buildings, or other industrial environments. BACnet / Modbus: Familiarity with BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and the gateways used to bring legacy controls systems onto modern networks. LoRaWAN Expertise: Experience designing LoRaWAN networks or performing RF coverage and gateway placement analysis. Cellular Hardware: Experience with enterprise cellular routers and gateways from vendors such as Cradlepoint, Peplink, Sierra Wireless/Semtech, Digi, or similar platforms. Wireless Backhaul: Experience designing outdoor point-to-point or point-to-multipoint wireless networks. Fiber Infrastructure: Experience specifying fiber types, pathways, optics, switching, and redundancy for campus or facility networks. Network Security: Familiarity with OT network segmentation, firewall policy, VPN architecture, zero-trust concepts, and secure remote access. Cloud Networking: Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts and connectivity to AWS or other cloud platforms. IoT / PropTech: Prior experience in IoT, PropTech, industrial technology, building automation, energy technology, or distributed sensor networks. The Profile You are a network engineer who likes environments where the answer is not simply, “plug it into the existing LAN.” You are comfortable walking into a site and figuring out how to connect a mechanical room in one building to infrastructure three buildings away, whether the right answer is fiber, cellular, Starlink, LoRaWAN, or a wireless backhaul. You think in diagrams. You want to know where the device is, what it is connected to, how traffic gets from there to Motion.cloud, what happens when the primary connection fails, and how we will know something is wrong before the customer does. You are equally comfortable discussing VLANs and routing with a customer’s IT team, antenna placement with an installer, LoRaWAN signal quality with an IoT engineer, and connectivity requirements with a controls contractor. When data stops arriving, you do not stop at “the sensor is offline.” You work the problem from end to end: device, RF, gateway, switch, firewall, carrier, VPN, Internet connection, and cloud. You are looking for a high-impact role where you can establish the networking standards and architecture behind a rapidly growing fleet of connected customer infrastructure.
