Grob Aircraft AG is a leading German aircraft manufacturer known for its pioneering work in advanced composite aircraft structures. For decades, we have developed and built military training aircraft such as the G 120TP and high-performance lightweight airframes, which are in service with air forces around the world. Since the acquisition by Helsing, we have grown to more than 400 people and are expanding into next-generation defence platforms like the Helsing CA-1 Europa.
With more programs and a fleet that flies for decades, obsolescence can't be handled on the side anymore. We are looking for a Senior Obsolescence Manager to own the topic within Engineering and build the structure behind it, for existing aircraft types as well as new developments.
About the Role
Parts get discontinued, suppliers exit, materials disappear. Our CS-23 aircraft stay in service for decades, the components inside them don't. That applies to the avionics with the glass cockpit as much as to the engine and its accessories. You are the central interface in the company for everything related to obsolescence. You spot risks early, assess them technically and align Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Program and Supply Chain. In new programs, you make sure obsolescence is considered right from the design phase. There is no finished process yet. You will help build it.
What you will do
Own obsolescence management across the full product lifecycle, proactive and reactive
Build and roll out an obsolescence process including roles, interfaces, escalation paths and reporting
Monitor discontinuations across avionics, engine, supplier parts and standard components
Work with suppliers on roadmaps, support commitments and spare parts availability
Analyze BOMs and rate risk by criticality, availability and alternatives
Define solutions: last-time buy, alternate parts, redesign, requalification, stockpiling
Assess the certification impact of every solution (change classification under Part 21, coordination with the design organisation and the authority)
Work with hardware, software, systems and certification engineering on technical decisions
Lead obsolescence projects including budget, schedule and stakeholders
Advise Engineering on design decisions so new designs are less exposed to discontinuations
What you bring
Must have:
Degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or similar
Several years of experience in obsolescence management, lifecycle management or component management
Strong technical understanding, especially of avionics, electronics and assemblies
Experience in project management and stakeholder management across departments
Experience building processes or structures yourself, not just running them
Experience with PLM, ERP and BOM structures
Fluent German and English (>C1)
Nice to have:
Aviation experience, ideally general aviation or certification under CS-23 or FAR Part 23
Knowledge of Part 21 (DOA/POA) and change procedures
Experience with turboprop engines or engine integration
Experience with glass cockpit systems or comparable environments
Knowledge of IEC 62402 or similar standards
PMP, IPMA or similar certification
What We Offer
A role with real room to shape things and direct access to decision makers
A growing company with its own aircraft and new defence programs
Ownership of a topic that directly affects delivery capability and fleet availability
We are a fast growing company with short decision-making processes and an open-door culture. Enjoy a range of attractive benefits, including:
✈️ FLYING AT GROB
Fly the GROB G115 in your free time (for PPL license holders)
Access to the GROB TP flight simulator
