Senior PHP Full-Stack Developer
Role Summary
This is a rare opportunity to do high-impact development work in an international context — fully remote, as part of CloudX Systems' Romania office. As a Senior PHP Full-Stack Developer, you will join our local team while serving as a dedicated technical resource for our client - a global leader in supply chain, logistics, and print & packaging. You will be among the first developers of a new team taking over development of the client's customer platforms from an external service provider.
You will build and own features across the full stack — PHP 8.x and Symfony with Doctrine and Twig on the back end, Vue.js and jQuery on the front end, and relational databases underneath — while modernising legacy PHP code and bringing AI-supported development into the team's daily work. You will be grounded in CloudX's culture, supported by our team, and engaged directly with business stakeholders across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- PHP: Develop, maintain, and refactor applications across multiple PHP versions — primarily PHP 8.x — and progressively modernise legacy codebases.
- Symfony: Build and extend Symfony applications using Doctrine ORM for data access, Twig for server-side rendering, and Composer for dependency management.
- js & jQuery: Develop responsive, interactive front-end features with Vue.js and jQuery, using Ajax for asynchronous communication and npm for package management.
- Databases: Design, query, and optimise relational databases (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL), ensuring data integrity and performance across the platforms.
- AI Development: Use AI-assisted development tools in your daily work and integrate AI capabilities, such as LLM-based features, into the client's applications where they add real value.
- Design and consume REST APIs, and implement secure authentication and authorisation using OAuth, JWT, and SSO.
- Write and maintain automated tests with PHPUnit to safeguard code quality during handover and refactoring.
- Deploy and operate applications on Linux servers with Apache or nginx, troubleshooting issues across the environment.
- Work closely with the current external service provider and the Technical Business Analyst to ensure a structured, complete transfer of know-how and codebase ownership.
- Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical documentation as the new team takes shape.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in PHP web development.
- Strong expertise in PHP, primarily 8.x, with the confidence to work in legacy PHP codebases.
- Solid experience with Symfony, Doctrine, Twig, and Composer in production applications.
- Hands-on experience with Vue.js and jQuery, Ajax-based interactions, and npm.
- Good knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL, including query optimisation and schema design.
- Practical experience in AI development — both AI-assisted coding and integrating AI services into applications.
- Experience building REST APIs and implementing authentication methods (OAuth, JWT, SSO).
- Experience writing unit and integration tests with PHPUnit.
- Working knowledge of Linux and Apache/nginx web server configuration.
- Proficiency with Git and Git-based platforms such as Gitea or GitLab.
- Strong written and spoken English — daily collaboration with international stakeholders is required.
- Ability to work effectively and proactively in a cross-border, distributed team.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Docker, Jenkins, SonarQube, Sentry, or Ant in CI/CD and code-quality workflows.
- Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or Liquibase for database migrations.
- Familiarity with PDFlib, phpseclib, PhpOffice, YAML, JSON/XML, as well as SOAP and MQTT integrations.
- Front-end styling with Bootstrap, Tailwind, or Sass.
- Experience with Ubuntu/Debian, shell scripting, and cron, as well as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- German language skills — an advantage, not a requirement.
- Domain knowledge in supply chain, logistics, or print & packaging, and experience in transition or migration projects.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
- Professional growth opportunities and ongoing learning support.
- A collaborative and innovative team culture.
- A remote-friendly policy.
