Help us accelerate the energy transition
The energy transition is transforming the German electricity market at unprecedented speed. As more wind and solar enter the system, large-scale battery storage is becoming essential to keeping electricity available when it is needed and the grid in balance.
At GIGA Storage, we develop, invest in and operate large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, with Germany playing an increasingly important role in our growth. By 2030, we aim to manage 1.5 to 2 GW of operational BESS assets, enough capacity to provide electricity to millions of households when it is needed most.
But building the assets is only part of the challenge. We also need to make sure their flexibility is used in the right markets, at the right time and through the right commercial structures. That is where you come in.
What will you do?
As Senior Power Originator Germany, you will play a key commercial role in bringing our growing battery portfolio to the German power market. Your focus is on identifying commercial opportunities and turning them into executable deals, from shorter-term route-to-market agreements to more complex, long-term structures.
You are our eyes and ears in the German energy market. You understand what is changing, where new opportunities are emerging and how developments in power, flexibility and energy trading can be translated into commercial value for our assets. This means building relationships with utilities, energy traders, industrial clients, aggregators and other market participants, while continuously exploring both existing and new markets.
A large part of your role is about turning commercial opportunities into signed deals. You take ownership of the origination process, from identifying opportunities and structuring transactions to negotiating terms and closing contracts that balance risk and return. This includes route-to-market processes, partner selection, RFPs and contract negotiations. GIGA Storage does not operate its own trading desk. Instead, we work with external trading and route-to-market partners who trade our assets. You play an important role in selecting, negotiating with and managing the commercial relationships with these partners.
Sometimes an opportunity fits an existing structure. At other times, you will need to think creatively and develop a new type of transaction or commercial product.
You will be part of GIGA Storage’s Commercial Energy Desk, joining a growing team at the heart of our commercial activities. You will work closely with our BE/NL Originator(s), Portfolio Management and Contract & Implementation Managers, as well as Legal and other internal and external stakeholders, to assess opportunities and bring the strongest propositions forward. As our portfolio grows, the emphasis will increasingly shift towards larger and longer-term transactions.
Your home base is our office in Dortmund, where we are building a local team of approximately 3 to 5 colleagues. You will work hybrid and collaborate closely with colleagues across GIGA Storage, including travel to our Amsterdam office.
What do you bring?
We are looking for an experienced commercial energy professional who knows the German power market and enjoys turning market opportunities into deals. You combine strong commercial judgement with creativity and are comfortable operating in an organisation that is growing quickly and where not everything has already been defined.
Approximately 7 to 12 years of relevant experience in the German energy market, with a strong background in power origination, route-to-market, structured energy products or comparable commercial activities. Experience in day-ahead and intraday power markets is particularly relevant as an additional background, but is not a standalone requirement.
A strong understanding of the German power market, commercial energy structures and the relevant market participants. Experience in the German market is a must.
A proven track record in structuring, negotiating and closing energy contracts and the confidence to lead commercial discussions with external counterparties.
Experience gained within a utility, energy trader, renewable energy developer, aggregator or another asset-backed energy business. BESS or flexibility-market experience is preferred, but not required.
A strong sense of ownership and a self-driven approach, with the ability to operate independently, take initiative and create momentum in the market as GIGA Storage continues to grow its presence in Germany.
Native-level German and strong professional English.
Just as important is how you work. You are commercially driven, curious and creative. You like to take ownership, build relationships and move opportunities forward rather than wait for a predefined playbook.
The impact you can make
Commercialise a growing BESS portfolio. Help determine how 2 GW of battery flexibility can be brought to market and turned into sustainable revenue streams.
Get the freedom to make deals. GIGA Storage invests equity in its own assets, giving us greater commercial flexibility around when and how we enter into transactions.
Help shape our approach in a changing market. The German flexibility and BESS market is developing rapidly. Rather than stepping into a fully established structure, you can help shape how we operate commercially as the market evolves.
Make a direct impact in a small team. Work in a lean, entrepreneurial environment with short lines to decision-makers, while helping build our growing German organisation.
What do we offer?
At GIGA Storage, you join an ambitious international company where you can combine the scale of major energy infrastructure with the pace and ownership of a growing organisation. Our Dortmund team is still taking shape, while being fully connected to colleagues in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. You will also be part of GIGA-wide meetings and company activities throughout the year.
An attractive salary.
A performance-based bonus of up to 20%.
A fixed year-end bonus of 7% to 9%.
28 days of annual leave.
An annual personal development budget of €750,-.
A pension arrangement combining the German statutory pension scheme with an employer contribution to an individual pension plan.
A company laptop and a net monthly phone allowance of €25,-
