Senior Power Systems Engineer
Location: Helsinki or Vaasa, Finland (Hybrid)

We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead dynamic model development for our energy storage and hybrid renewable solutions, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, hybrid plants and other inverter-based resources. In this role, you will help turn complex grid integration challenges into reliable, high-performing solutions for our customers.

What you will do

Modelling and Studies

• Develop and validate power system models for BESS, solar PV, hybrid plants, and other inverter-based resources using PSCAD, PSS®E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Build models from first principles, including control algorithms, protection schemes, and plant-level behavior.
• Automate modelling workflows using Python, MATLAB, or Fortran.
• Support grid integration studies and work directly with utilities, grid operators, and project developers.
  
  

Grid Codes and Product Development

• Review grid codes and develop Valo's PPC to meet target market regulations and customer requirements.
• Assess PCS supplier models and verify their compliance with requirements in target markets.
  
  

Sales and Project Support

• Support the sales engineering team with pre-sales studies and recommend technical solutions that meet customer requirements and tender specifications.
• Review grid code requirements to identify compliance needs and potential impacts on Valo's solutions.
• Support customers with modelling activities and grid compliance studies.
• Support project execution, particularly with power system-related tasks.
• Collaborate across teams to improve the performance and reliability of Valo's solutions.
  
  
  
  

What we are looking for

• Master's degree or PhD in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 3-5 years of hands-on experience developing dynamic models. We are looking for model development experience, not only experience running studies.
• Proficiency in PSCAD, PSS®E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Experience with at least one scripting language.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet project deadlines, and deliver results while working through complex technical challenges.
• Authorisation to work in Finland.
  
  
  
  

It would be an advantage if you have

• Knowledge of inverter and power electronics control systems.
• Familiarity with electricity markets and market regulations.
