Overview

This position is for a Senior Principal Software Developer - AI Integration. In this role you will be the technical authority for the Solace Agent Mesh: an event-driven Integration and Orchestration Platform for Agentic AI that securely connects, orchestrates, governs and scales AI agents in real-time. You will set the technical direction for how Solace blends advanced AI technologies with our core products and internal tooling, and help shape product strategy alongside Engineering and Product leadership. You will stay deeply hands-on, turning ambiguous, high-stakes problems into working prototypes and shipped capabilities, while raising the technical bar across multiple teams, partnering directly with strategic customers, and representing Solace as a recognized voice in the Agentic AI community.

What You'll Do:

• Set Technical Direction: Own the long-term architectural vision for AI integration across the Solace Agent Mesh, making and documenting the high-impact decisions that span multiple teams and product lines
• Shape Product Strategy: Partner with the VP of Engineering, Product Management and executive leadership to define the roadmap, assess the competitive landscape, weigh build-vs-buy and packaging/pricing trade-offs, and identify where Solace should lead the market
• Architect for Enterprise Trust: Define the security, identity and governance model for agents, including agent identity and delegated authorization (e.g., OAuth/OBO, Entra Agent ID), RBAC, sandboxed tool execution, model access governance, and controls for third-party agents joining the mesh
• Prototype and Ship Fast: Rapidly build working end-to-end prototypes of new capabilities, from SDKs that bring third-party agents into the mesh, to new gateways, workflows and self-improving agent systems; get the strongest ideas out quickly as Early Access features, then carry them through to GA
• Advance AI Quality and Evaluation: Lead the strategy for agent evaluation (LLM-as-judge and decision-model judges), model compatibility across frontier and open-weight models, and deployment in sovereign and air-gapped environments
• Engage Strategic Customers: Serve as the technical consultant on key customer pilots and accounts, author solution proposals, and turn field learnings into platform improvements
• Raise the Bar Across Engineering: Mentor Principal and Senior engineers, review critical designs and code, establish engineering standards, and champion AI-native development practices (coding agents, skills, automated workflows) across the organization
• Be a Voice for Solace: Represent Solace externally through blogs, conference talks, open-source contributions and industry collaboration, and lead internal communities of practice on AI
• Stay Ahead: Continuously scan the AI landscape (new models, frameworks, protocols and competitors) and translate it into concrete opportunities and risks for Solace.

What You Bring:

• Deep AI/ML Expertise: 15+ years of software development experience with 5+ years building production AI/ML systems, including LLMs, multi-agent architectures, and model evaluation
• Programming Skills: Working knowledge of Python and Go or Java (SpringBoot), plus JavaScript/TypeScript (React); deep experience with AI agent frameworks and protocols (e.g., A2A, MCP)
• Cloud and Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code
• AI Operations: Experience running AI systems in production, including model selection and deployment (including self-hosted open-weight models), observability, evaluation and lifecycle management
• Organizational Impact: A track record of setting technical strategy across multiple teams and driving complex, cross-functional initiatives from idea to market without direct authority
• Customer and Executive Presence: Experience as a trusted technical advisor to enterprise customers and senior leadership
• Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs to engineers, executives and customers alike

Nice to Have:

• Experience architecting event-driven architectures, message brokers, API design, and microservices in distributed AI environments at
• Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0/OIDC, delegated and on-behalf-of authorization, enterprise identity providers, multi-tenancy and isolation Knowledge of real-time streaming technologies (Apache Kafka, Pulsar, or Solace PubSub+)
• Experience fine-tuning or deploying specialized and open-weight models, including quantization and inference performance trade-offs
• Experience with AI safety, governance, and ethical AI practices, including regulatory and data sovereignty requirements
• A public profile in the AI community: open-source leadership, research publications, patents or conference talks
• Understanding of enterprise integration patterns and middleware technologies

Expected Salary Range: Expected salary range for this role is from $200,000 to $250,000. The final offer within this range will reflect the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
